I've been searching for a product that can be used to deal with scuff marks on the black plastic parts of the interior door panels in my 2022 GT convertible. It needs to result in a matte look finish in order to properly blend, but everything I'm finding leaves the finish shiny where it's applied. I'm probably overlooking some obvious product that will solve the problem. Recommendations of products you've actually tried and know they'll actually accomplish what's needed will be much appreciated.

Here’s a trick for all that works.

Look for a black “wax pencil” or “grease pen”, or it’s even referred to as a “China Marker”. This is what I’m referring to (you can buy these things anywhere and in bulk if needed):

You can do this one of 2 ways:
- Use the marker to directly fill in scratch.
- Use the marker to “blend” a surface blemish on a black panel. On a paper towel or shop rag take the marker and rub/write into the towel so there is a nice deep black circle. After you have the circle on the towel, massage it into or over the surface blem(s) on the black interior panel.

Depending on the surface blem type, whichever method you need/used above, then follow up:
- get a clean micro fiber
- after applying the marker based on either of the (2) methods above, use the microfiber to now buff in the repair.
- repeat application of marker and buffing until you have a satisfactory repair.
- once repair is complete, use your favorite interior detailer

That has worked for me on numerous occasions in many vehicles with black interior panels.

The “sprays” don’t do diddly except to clean panels or make them “shiny” where there was dirt (from using shoes to open door, or having grubby hands) or DNA left from body (hands/feet/legs/arms) rubbing the panels and leaving such marks. Those products won’t repair or really hide other surface blems such as scratches and scuffs that have marred the actual surface.

Another trick you can also try too:
- Get black shoe polish. Apply a dab to a microfiber. Test it on the black panel in an inconspicuous area first - if all is well proceed. Buff it into the blem. Use a clean microfiber to remove any excess and continue to buff into the panel.

The wax pencil/grease pen/China Marker has been my go to for years… always does the trick if you’re patient and do the steps noted.

The only other way to repair a deep scratch or major blemish on a black interior plastic panel is to use heat. You also must have a pad or another piece of panel that has the same grain as the panel being repaired. Heat the damaged panel surface lightly, then press the pad/donor panel with grain onto the heated panel and it should transfer the grain and “heal” the damage as such. Again this is an extreme measure and there is tech/images online on how to do such a repair. I’ve never had to do it, so I can’t add anymore than referring folks to look up that type of repair themselves.

I've been contemplating Alacantara for lower doors....it's synthetic and wipes clean. I should try a taped test first...

My Alcantara on the wheel started out with a nice soft finish. After 5 years it's a smooth surface.wonder how it would do over time where it's getting kicked

Thanks for that! Always wondered how it weathered. Did you clean it monthly?

No maybe every few months but it would always get smooth pretty quickly so I stopped fooling with it

I went to the shop. Didn't have a chance to discuss due to their extreme arrogance I just walked out. This is why Katzkins is successful LOL.
