Hi,

Is touch up paint a good long term solution to nicks and scratches on our Mustangs? And if so should I just buy some or have a professional do it?

My 2016 Mustang has tons of nicks and scratches after years of it being a highway commuter car. It’s not noticeable from a few feet away but since it’s my daily driver I notice it. I’ve had it almost 7 years now and want to keep maintaining it for 2 or 3 more years of driving.

Taking the car to a detailer for their input and a quote sounds like a good idea; they could perform a pro-level paint correction/polish :inspect: ). The results can be surprising (in a good way 😁). If your budget allows for it, placing PPF in a few strategic locations could help prevent future blemishes.

With rock chips, the aim is to "fill" them rather than "painting" them. I use a small artists brush to "drip" or dab paint into the chip. You can use a toothpick or syringe to do the same thing. The key thing to consider with paint touch ups is patience.

Have a look at this video for techniques -

Also research/search "Dr. Colorchip" on here and the web. Seems like those who have purchased the kit have had decent results. It works as designed but results may vary depending on the color of the vehicle.

+1. Dr ColorChip can be used for small chips and even larger areas of rash. Always had perfect results. Not the cheapest, but the best.
