Sorry to see the damage and glad everyone is ok.Howdy! New to the forum! Just curious to all those who have been rear ended. Is it best to use your own insurance or deal with the at fault driver's insurance? Got a real low ball estimate from at fault driver's insurance ( talking lizard) just based off pictures sent to them, not viewing in person.Does this look like only 4k in damage?![]()

LOL @ $4k in damages....
The trunk pan is damaged for sure. Granted the crash bar absorbed the impact like it should, but that trunk pan took a hit as well.
As for the Insurance question:
Anytime you are hit by another driver, you should always go through their insurance (if they have it). If they don't have insurance, then yes you would have to go through your own.
You should notify your insurance Co. about the accident no matter what - and if you're getting flak from the other driver's Insurance (since it seems you reached out to them already), then tell your Ins. Co. Agent and let the Ins. Co.'s do the battle as they are supposed to do.
The whole rear of your car is shifted - obvious to the damages on the passenger side rear 1/4 being buckled, but look at your first image. The drivers side door, even though it's closed, you can see the driver rear 1/4 is also tweaked because there is a definitive gap now between the door and body (1/2 way down the image).
I think it may be totaled - if not, really close to being without even seeing the "unseen" damages.
