Looks like my torque converter (catalog number 5347180, 7902 in the picture below) has a slight problem. Is it normal?
Our local dealer in China contacted the Ford US warranty department, and they decided to replace and send a new gearbox for replacement under warranty. The dealer did not even dismount the gearbox. Is it normal?

Is what normal - the torque converter mounting plate totally breaking free from the torque converter? No, it’s totally abnormal and they (Ford) did what is right, replace the entire trans.

The “gearbox” is all one assembly; so when they drop the unit from the car, it’s exactly as done and seen in your pics. They don’t remove the “gearbox” from the bell housing, etc like one would do with a manual transmission. With an auto trans (6R80 or 10R80), the entire transmission has to be removed from the engine in one piece.
