So after YEARS of trouble free service, I made the decision to screw everything up, and put a supercharger on my car! I latterly wrestled with this idea for over 2 years. Was pretty hung up over doing a 6-71 for awhile, but I couldn’t justify the price and what it would have taken to get working on my car and combo. The TS was litterly half the price. So here is the current NA combo:

1969 Mustang Coupe

Stock 1990 Mustang 302

Edelbrock Heads and intake

FMS "B" Cam

MSD Dizzy and 6AL Ignition

Holley 650

Carter M60454 Mechanical Fuel Pump

Flowtech headers

T5 setup

Since I have already converted to a Fox Serpentine setup, I went with kit part number: ARP-K-FD-302S

https://torqstorm.com/product/kits_single_small-block-ford/

Fuel System will be:

  • Aeromotive Stealth tank 18147.
  • Redhorse Performace Pushlock stuff f for feed
  • Stock 3/8 line for return
  • Aeromotive 13301 Regulator
  • APD Blowthrough Carb
So lets get started!

After 6 weeks, the box shows up. Decisions decisions on which Mustang…

Last look of the NA setup.

Removed all the stock brackets out of the way.

Test Fitting the TS mounting bracket

So here is my first complaint. The instructions are very simple, like 6 steps. My issue is I get a bag of hardware, a lot of idler pullies and no idea past some pics on the internet on what goes where. Even when you get a 40$ desk from IKEA, it has all its hardware in individual bags! This really took me a minute to figure out. Had to separate all the hardware out on my tool bench and start labeling everything as I found out where it went. My kit came with a fair amount of spare hardware, which is nice if you need a replacement for something, but it’s really not labeled as such.

So finally got things were they needed to go

And that is about all I made it to the first day or so. Have a pretty fair amount of work ahead of me. Some things I know for sure I would need to change.

The carb hat and couplers. Their kit has it coming over the distributor and I know it would not fit. Pretty sure I can get some different couplers and run it differently.

Upper rad hose

Wiring…. All of my wiring is in the way. When I built the motor years ago, the battery was moved to the trunk and I placed my 6AL and everything else right there. Its all pretty much in the way and will need to be moved in some capacity.

Next up was to get the headunit in place and figure out what needs ordered and what needs moved.

Right off the bat, no filter fitting here. After talking to a Procharger buddy, going to go with a Turbo Guard

https://turboguard.com/products/copy-of-turbo-guard®-sf-plus-basic-colors

I have really good room. I can run my stock Fox clutch fan, but all my electronics are in the way

Getting started. Decided to put the MSD box behind the glove compartment mounted to some piece of scrap I had laying around. This took me several days to reloom and recreate harnesses.

After several hours of work. All cleaned up

While figuring out what couplers to go with, decided to get a Extreme Velocity carb hat. The couplers are a 3” 90 degree and a 3.5” to 3” 90 degree. Had to trim a little of the silicone, but looks like it’s going to fit fine.

The turbo Guard showed up. Looks awesome!

For the most part, wrapped up. Serpentine Belt is a 83.5 inch and for the upper hose, I was able to cut a little off each side and seems to fit good.

At this point I was able to start the car. Sure put a smile on my face first time I heard the supercharger make some noise and the fact that I had done all that electrical work correctly on the first try! So this wraps up Phase 1 of my install. Next will be the fuel system, followed by the APD carb install.

Fuel System

So as mentioned above, here is what we are working with:

Fuel System:

  • Aeromotive Stealth tank 18147.
  • Redhorse Performace Pushlock stuff f for feed
  • Stock 3/8 line for return
  • Aeromotive 13301 Regulator

Step one, pull the old tank and put in the Stealth. Pretty straight forward process (other than getting yourself completely soaked in gas….)

Not really going to bore with all of this, but here is the underside mostly done. Rewired and sleeved the lines for extra protection.

Ran the line and flowed the stock hardline all the way to the front of the car. Being overly cautious, I wrapped anything I thought might have been in a pinch point.

I found an existing hole and used a -6 bulkhead connector there

On the inside, I had to move my overflow tank down. Here I was test fitting for the regulator placement.

And here it is 99% done. Still need to put some fuel in it and test for leaks.

Still waiting on the APD carb to ship, so next I will probably start working on my gauges I am installing.

While waiting on the carb, I sorted out fuel leak after fuel leak. Pretty upset with these Aeromotive FPR and fuel tanks. Lets just say their design and quality is not what I remember from 20 years ago. I got everything to eventually work, but a major PIA.

On the interior front, I got to work on my gauges. I am adding:

Speedhut Fuel Pressure and Boost

AEM Wideband

Intake Temp

I knew two of them would go up on my dash, but for the others, I was trying find a place that wouldn’t look to terrible. Ended up placing down where the ash tray was.

For the Speedhut gauges, I wanted them to match the font and style of my exsisting Tach. Great part is, it is really easy to do with Speedhut. I wanted to do something a little different with the boost gauge :captain:

So a bunch of boring wiring aside and here is the finished product.

After weeks of waiting, I was finally received the APD carburetor. I must say, this thing is a true work of art. Entire thing is made from billet aluminum and anodized black.

I also broke down and bought some cheap Amazon wire spacers.

Went pretty smooth after and here is the “final” look

Couple videos of it running:

Car starts better than with the old 650 Brawler I had on it. Lol. Still have the mess with the timing and getting the bung welded in for the wideband o2. It also smokes a bit that seems like its raw fuel. But took it around the block and up to the gas station to get some fresh gas in it and it sounds AMAZING! Like more than I could have hoped. I will have to work on getting some vids of this thing as we start to work on the tuning aspect of it. But for now, I think we can call the install done
