Tomtop Unit Fixes

Like StangATX said I've been running a new fix for the Chinese button which I can report has been fixed. It did however revert the temp to read Celsius instead of Fahrenheit but I have faith he'll get it resolved. lol

Edit: Will try that Patrick. I assumed you changed it in the Nav version that came with the unit right? or were you able to in the one on StangATX's website? Did it actually stick/stay even if you turned off the unit?

Granted I'm not constantly playing with my unit everyday, I can say I have been adamant to kind of go through the settings and play with the radio and such when I think about it and so far the only "issue" has been the temp thing on this version. Besides the normal quirky things the unit has of course.

Yes, I changed it on the NextGen that I got from ATX's website, and it seemed to stay, even after reboot. If for whatever reason it doesn't stay after reboot, I think I set mine to autostart NAV and that could be why it stayed for me. I just hated not being able to have my texts read to me, that's something I've gotten used to, and I reply with text-to-speech on my watch, so I never have to take my eyes off the road.

That's good to know. I guess we should all try to update our Sync2 before to install the Tomtop unit and the features might be still present. I personally don't look at my phone while Driving... Everybody knows in my family whenever I take the road they get a notification on their phones and I will never even use the text-to-speech via Sync. If there's a problem they call and I'll pick up from the steering wheel.

Actually my TomTop unit has notified me of texts and read one out to me but only on 2 occasions since I've installed it. Usually it doesn't notify me and I forget under what special circumstances I was able to make it but it does work with the TomTop unit installed. It's just very picky on when and how it wants to work.

Patrick: I went through all (I think) of the Nav settings and couldn't find anything relating to the Temperature. I know you don't have your unit anymore but do you think you can remember where you found that setting?

I believe for the text messages you need to enable the Sync Permission on your phone. (At least on Android it's like that...).

I can't remember off the top of my head where I found it, the settings for MPH/KMH and F/C were all on the same page.

Yeah, it worked fine before TomTop, and works fine after, but never notified me once while it was installed.

Question on the text thing: I know we probably have a good bit of lurkers here(which is quite alright! lol), has anyone else NOT have text notifications come up on their TomTop units? If you DO have it working consistently, does it just work or did you have to do something to get it working properly?

I may end up having to take on the role to help StangATX out as I know he has gone above and beyond with all of his great work but I really want to see a section on the 1st post or on the website where we have an on going list of what bugs there are, what's fixed (with hyperlinks on how to fix them) and what we are currently working on, expectations of what we would like fixed, etc.

For what it's worth, mine still notifies me of text messages. I don't really use the "read to me" function because there's nothing that urgent about a text message that can't wait until I'm in a position to safely respond (personally, I'm only comfortable when the car's parked/stopped), but I think it pretty much always pops up with the option.

The misspellings and the date being off are annoying (my time is right, but I can't set the date correctly). It looks like the play/pause button in Chinese is just how it's going to be though, right?

Good to know on yours. The fact that mine sometimes works led me to believe there is probably those who have no issues with theirs whereas there are others like me who are hit and miss but mostly miss. To sum up, some have issues where others don't with this. I've never tried disconnecting my phone and reconnecting since the TomTop install. It just stayed connected going from the 4" to the TomTop unit. May try that to see if it like "resets the system" if you will.

As far as the misspellings and Chinese wording I can report back that StangATX has this down. The Play/Pause is 100% fixed. Stang just wants to wait on releasing the fix as we figure this Temp thing out. I think the date and time thing as well as a few of the other bugs may be tackled next, all up to Stang and the others who have been working on these fixes for us.

Alright guys! I got my car back today. I sent a newer update to @RedfireV8 he tested it out for me right before I got my car back. So far so good. Chinese button are fixed. The temp is back to Fahrenheit. I just updated my unit as well and everything seems to run smoothly. PS: I used an older English Lang XML file this is why you still see "One Connected" Sometimes the "Phone Connected" shows up for an odd reason. I'm still looking into that issue...

Dude you should contact Ford Customer Service about what that dealership did. I would bet you were not the first person they pulled that shit on.
I probably would contact the Law (State prosecutor) as well. There are laws for that crap they just did.

I don't know enough to do that kinda stuff lol. Plus I wouldn't like this guy to loose his job either. It wasn't his day probably... I mean I'm mad at him and Ford but I don't wanna make him in a bad situation. He probably has a family like all of us. At 1st I didn't wanna blur his face but then after calming down I decided to just go ahead and do it. However I just wanted to share it to make people aware that kinda scam exist. Unfortunately even in dealership!

I'm still waiting on my refund... However, I can't believe what the service director told me. "Sir, I think you'll never be happy with that car because you keep complaining about the issues." (Maybe... I wouldn't have to complain if the job was done correctly! It's a brand new car it should have zero issues and that's it!). What a shame Ford! You can read the description for more info and after the intro I also explain what happened. I came for 3 issues (my transmission which I came about 3 times before they finally fixed it. My drive shaft that's pinging which I also came 3 time but it's still pinging. And now this issue which I came twice I believe and still not fixed.) They took note of all of it but all the time they couldn't replicate the noise. However Every time I take the car the problem happens again and every day).

Dude, you're not alone. Just today a Ford tech told me it's "normal" for the steering wheel to be off 3 degrees to the left.

Cost me $180 to hear that.
