TOMTOP 8" Touchscreen Upgrade: Post-Install Issues & Help Thread

I'm thinking about biting the bullet and purchasing one (wanted the raxiom one but I don't have the patience for the delays). For those who recently purchased one of the recent ones without the original bugs, did you purchase it direct from Tomtops website or somewhere else. I would hate to get an older model and deal with the earlier issues which seem to have mostly been worked out.

Ordered mine direct from TomTop, but they also sell on eBay under names like Tomtop_sales, Tomtop_AU, Tomtop_direct, etc.
Like you, I gave up on the Raxiom unit. Tomtop is good enough for me. However, if you're going to want stuff like Apple Carplay, Android whatever, etc., it may be a good idea to sit tight. Raxiom MAY be so equipped...maybe. The AM dude is hinting that he's sending out test units to members here. No word about features. He's vey coy.

I was in the same boat, I got fed up with Raxiom taking so long -- buying this was a decision I do NOT regret.

Since I'm more comfortable with Ebay, I bought it there from a seller named "NewMango" who actually works for TomTop (direct link somewhere in this forum).

Free shipping and the item came in 3 days! It's also the most up-to-date November 2015 version.

This was my exact seller. Although it says "China", the item was actually located in Los Angeles. Since I live in Northern California, the navigation system came in 3 days! Pleasantly surprised!

Also worthy to note, when I bought the item, it was $295 (it must have been on a sale). It's currently listed at $321.94. Nonetheless, the peace of mind knowing the seller is trustworthy pays for itself!

Back up cam

Hey guys. New to this...I had the tomtop installed today and I'm having problems with my back up cam. It is only coming up as a blue/white screen.... I had these guys at a local audio shop install it. They said there is no plug in for the back up camera (stock cam) I see that some of you guys actually have it working... Can I have the steps for them please... :ford:

A number of us had the same issue. There are two yellow RCA cables that the unit came with. There's no place to connect them because they actually connect to each other (silly, I know). If you look at the labels, under the Chinese writing, both RCA cables are labeled "rear view camera".

This should solve the issue instantly.

Actually another question, anybody having problems playing videos? I used the USB adapter that came with stereo, plugged my phone in and it prompt me to allow the device to use my photos videos but nothing happens... Any advice ?

No problem. As far as videos are concerned, I believe that the cable only reads from thumb drives. WMV and MP4 videos uploaded to a USB stick can be played, otherwise, you'd need additional software for mirror display functions. I'm sure someone else here can elaborate more on this.

Has anyone tried pulling the sim card out making a copy with a larger one I noticed this unit is based off of Windows CE curious if the sim is tweak able....

I hear the guy on you tube did it and then his gps stopped working completely he just copied the card on to a computer and that happened, I'd suggest not messing with it
