Hey Team,
So I just bought a used set of 20x10 LMR GT500 style wheels. They came with some 275/35R20s Firehawk Indy 500s, the tires are almost brand new but my issue is that the tire doesnt seem wide enough for the wheel. The edge of the rim is almost a hair wider than the tire and is really exposed when it comes to curbs or road debris. I definitely want to throw a set of sticky tires on the back Nitto NT05 R2s or maybe some Toyo R888Rs. Im looking at getting a 295 or maybe a 305 for the back. Then down the road in the front going up to a 285 or 295. What do you guys think?

I think you should have bought an 11" wheel if you wanted to run 305s. Also not all tires are the same in the same 'size'.

Anyway for a 10" wheel a a 285/35 would fit better. A 285 MP4s will be 1.5" wider at the tread than your 275 Indy 500 (10.1" vs 8.6")

That Indy 500 tire appears to not have as much rim protection on the sidewall as others, The MP4S has quite a large rim protector which helps. Its basically extra meat on the sidewall where it meets to rim, and it makes it look a lot less like its on a wheel that's too small.

As far as sticky tires go, the R888R are an ancient deisgn, and a ton of newer 200TW tires work a lot better than that one. What type of tire you can run (extreme performance summer, vs max performance summer) depends a lot on the weather in your area. Some of the sticky tires are shit in the rain. Others work pretty well.

If you want a recommendation which will blow the R888R out of the water (figuratively), check out the 285/35 yokohama A052. That Yoke is 10.6" at the tread in the same 285 size. They run wider than most. Literally 2" wider than your 275 Indy500. Crazy
