As I understand it, the turbo itself provides all the back pressure that is needed.

If someone can show me a good straight through muffler that's in the $50/ea or less price range, I'd definitely consider it.

That is my understanding as well. There is so much out there that seems to challenge any assumption. I like the Thrush welded muffler if for nothing else than mellow the rasp that seems to be the case with a muffler delete. The Budget Boosting video has a pretty good sound using them although I am sure it was never dyno'd.

I do like how it sounds. It's deep like Mangaflow, but has more growl to it when revving. One concern I have with a lot of the raspier exhausts is how they sound with a catless downpipe, since I plan to run one eventually. A chambered muffler would, I think, keep a lot of the rasp at bay.

Just by comparing the stock muffler to this muffler, I'm pretty sure this one flows better.

Agreed. This can't be any worse than the Stock unit. I have to keep a catted downpipe here in Cali. Best of luck with the project and take lots of pics and videos!

A chambered muffler relies on exhaust pulses to work. Problem is a turbo tends to remove a lot of the pulses when on boost and making the individual chambers the exhaust passes through more of a restriction. Really A chambered muffler will still be fine on a stock turbo car and still be an improvement over stock.

So, you believe the Thrush Welded are as restrictive as the stock? I guess what you mean is something more free flowing is better on a turbo car. My concern is if you go muffler delete and resonator delete is there enough back pressure for scavenging? What is the happy medium?
You don't really have to worry about that on a turbo car. Back pressure is the enemy on a turbo car, and like Pewter said, you want the exhaust to be as free flowing as possible. You're shoving a lot of air in and you want to get the exhaust out as quickly and efficiently as possible. I've seen the internals of both the factory muffler and the Thrush Welded. Based on what I've seen, I'd bet that the factory mufflers are more restrictive and adding the Thrush mufflers would improve flow but not as much as a Magnaflow or Full Boar.

Here's an interesting tip too: Check out the Jones Exhaust Full Boar MAX Flow line of mufflers. They're identical to Magnaflows, but have mandrel bends inside the muffler casing and they're literally have the price for the SAME quality. Magnaflow crush bends the piping inside the muffler whereas Full Boar is mandrel bent. The quality of the Full Boar is really good too and it's what I'm going to run on my new setup in a few weeks.

EDIT: I guess I should look for a second page of replies next time, lol. Pewter had already replied saying basically the same thing.

Favorite exhaust of all time for me is the Full-Race "race" turbo back.
Goooood lord!

I'm here to learn. I appreciate the explanation.

Anyone know of someone with the Max Flow set up? I do like the mandrel bends and the proof is in the results but, would like to "hear" it first.

A friend put them on his and they sound just like the Magnaflows to me. They have a great deep sound and aren't raspy at all. Like I said, I'm going to install them on my new setup, and trust me, I'm picky!

Thanks Juben! I look forward to seeing and hearing how your's turn out. I agree that look like a better set up than the Magnaflows and the price is much better.

Hmm.... not a big fan of the Magnaflow sound. Is there a company that makes cheap straight throughs that sound similar to the Flowmaster Outlaw or Solo Performnce mufflers?

All of our mufflers with some type of offset will have mandrel bends inside.

Is this an accurate representation of the muffler/resonator delete sound? Because I would get in on that if it was.
