I usually have a primary fob and the spare stashed away. With the Mustang the wife is keeping a fob in her purse and I'm using the spare.

Should I buy a third fob as a spare?

My opinion is.
It Depends.
If you or your wife lose one can you afford to wait to get a replacement, you can't just walk into any hardware store and get a new one anymore. So a trip to a dealer or buying online are the only options, and take time.
That said, If you lose one you might want to have the vehicle un learn the lost key so, if say someone takes your wife purse, they don't have a fob that start and let them drive off with the car.
I have no idea if you can diy to have the car un learn a fob, or if you have to take it to a dealer.
But If I lost one from a purse snatch, or whatever, I'd want that fob deactivated. So it can't be used.

If you want, why not?
I don't really see the point unless you plan to lose both at the same time. Otherwise nothing really changes from your past habits.

The plus to doing it now is you won't have to get a dealer or locksmith involved to program it. You will need to find someone who can cut the key though.
The con of course is the cost.

You need two to program a third or forth by yourself. Otherwise you need the dealer to program it and that costs $$$.
Yes! It's $310.00 to be exact. My GF lost a key in New Mexico when the car was a month old. Buy one now and program it yourself.

You'll still need someone to cut the emergency key. A dealer or a locksmith. And it's a key that not every locksmith is set up to cut. I'd suggest calling a dealer near you and asking for the name of the locksmith that does their keys because most dealers don't really bother to do keys.

I wonder if you can program a key like a dealer does using Forescan? Not to worried about the physical key since you don't need it to start/unlock the car.
