Looking down the road at power adders, but I do have some "slight" concerns with the pistons in this motor. I read somewhere that these are "cast" and not hyperutetictic or forged. First off, is this true or am I mistaken? What about the size of the top ring land?

My former "muscle car" was a 98 Pontiac Formula that I bought right off the transport truck, it eventually morfed into a mid 10 daily driver. The LS1's came from the factory with Hyperutetictic pistons, so I had no issues with throwing a 100 shot nitrous system on it (wet).

With my 2016, I'll probably go the route of forced induction.

Stock Coyote engines have gone 8's at over 150mph in the 1/4 mile. Common street cars are regularly doing 10's with blowers on the stock engines. I'd upgrade the oil pump gears before worrying about the rotating assembly. If your plan was to go 9's or faster regularly, at that point I'd consider a built engine from Livernois or similar.

ls1s were known to have weak bottom ends. i had an 02 z28 that was shot before 20,000 miles.

Take a look at this thread and you can see the mods done to our shop car running in the 9's @ 150 mph!! :headbang:

Thanks for the mention Grimace!

We have made well over 720rwhp on a few completely stock lower end 15/16 S550's. Is it the ideal situation, no. The reason is that we always want to have a built-in fudge factor for if/when you encounter a bad tank of gas, prolonged periods of abuse and/or repeated periods of abuse just for a few examples. This way you, and us, know that your car is safe regardless of what typical failure causing conditions you may encounter. However, it is not imperative that you upgrade your engine or piston/rod combo for what you are thinking about ATM. But, we do recommend the upgrade for safety.
