Thoughts on a Targa Roof

Personally I think the S550 would look beautiful with a targa roof.

Not fond of what they have done in the second pic, but its just for reference....

Targa is great. I loved it on my supra. However, i rarely used it even when i had it.

I totally dig it! I have that same picture of the white car. I also have a T-Top Turbo Daytona and I've taken the roofs out several times. Heck, the summer before last I'd pop them out for my 6-minute commute home! If it's a sunny day, hell yeah they're coming out. If my Mustang had them, it would be no different.

I actually got pulled over by a very young cop who thought I'd (illegally) cut the roof out of my car. He'd never seen a T-Top or a Daytona before. Nice enough cop, but pretty dumb.

The S550 looks so good with the top down and is so convenient I wouldn't switch. I like it on someone else's car though.

there's a company that makes that kit and i wanna say it's $2k or $3k for material, and it will cost like $9k to install. i don't remember the exact number but it's very expensive

nevermind...found my convo with the guy that makes it. $4k plus shipping for the parts and $2k to install it. install takes 5-7 days

is all that bracing behind the rear seats the only thing keeping the car from twisting into a pretzel? or is that just a harness bar...

i admit it does look nice, but the last time i drove something with a targa (and t-bar) i didn't care much for the loss in rigidity.

I would prefer a T-bar roof myself, with a chunk of steel in the center and two lift-off portions instead of one big one. Just like an older Corvette or my Daytona.

If a genuine Targa was produced, I'd imagine it would be a heavier car due to needed subframe reinforcement, especially on a Mustang which is a unibody vehicle (and has been since inception from 1964).

I had a 1986 Mustang GT which was a factory T-top as built - extremely fun car for daily driving and had the best of (3) worlds: Targa-like, convertible-like and sunroof-like. The T-top glass was easy to remove, didn't take a lot of storage space when off and I never had any issues with the seals or leakage. If you kept the seals in good shape, there also was no issues with squeaks or creaks from the roof.

Targa or T-tops would be a nice welcome addition to the Mustang again, if properly executed.
