The product description says "Our engineers started with a large surface area high-flow nano-fiber air filter, added our famous “race-tested” velocity stack entry and then designed a black powder-coated heat shield with a durable rubber gasket to seal the shield against the vehicle’s hood."

So it does say there is a rubber gasket meeting the hood, maybe just not in the pic on the website.

Question is if it is sealed where is it taking the air from then? I wish there was a pic of the whole box out of the car.

No doubt, I completely understand the hood being open during dyno pulls and
my intent here was not to rehash anything that's been discussed here before.

I was questioning the test.
With this CAI design the hood more or less becomes the air box cover and with it left uncovered it will undoubtedly be pulling in most of its air through the open top (during testing).
Before I plunk $350.00 down I want to know how the CAI does when it's pulling more of it's air through the front duct opening.
Covering the top of the air box (simulating the hood covering it) during dyno testing I think it's more representative of actual driving conditions.
I would then be more inclined buy into the dyno numbers.
Point well taken!

I wouldn't think any of the dyno numbers with any intake or other mods would be done with the hood closed.

i actually had a steeda intake and tune on my 12 and i loved it. i even took it to leven motorsports in St Pete to get a custom tune and he would only tune the car with the hood down and big fans blowing in front of it for real time conditions because he said we dont drive around with our hoods up. i will say i didnt think about that and and he open the hood and the car picked up power somewhere between 5 and 10rwhp than it did with the hood down. The car did end up making a little more power with the steeda tune. the big benefit is the larger diameter tube offered by jlt and steeda for the real benefit. i did end up leaving the steeda tune in the car after all that.

From the front air duct and from around the box were it doesn't seal to the hood.

Yeah, I do like the the velocity stack design and believe it to be beneficial.
It certainly made a measurable difference at the track years back when I used a stack on a carburetor engine.

Frankly, whether the hood is up or down is irrelevant. The dynos should be used for comparison between runs and thats about it. The hood should always be up or should always be down when making back to back runs. My guess they did not alternate.

If you were concerned about tuning with the hood up or down for the canned tunes provided then maybe I could understand.

In the end i think the steeda is a pretty good intake with the restrictor REMOVED and tuned. i dont have one on my 15 yet, but i just know my 12 ran very strong with just a off road xpipe, steeda cold air, an steeda tune and made 420 and change and made 363 on the same dyno prior just not same day. I am still in the air on which intake i am going with, me and a buddy had identical mods and he had an airaid intake and i had the steeda and i made more power on the same dyno and same day as him and would usually pull unless i bumped the rev limiter.

Hi all, here are some key benefits about our 2015 CAI:

- our 2015 CAI utilizes a true 101mm mass air flow housing
- after 101mm, even with larger throttle bodies we have seen significant drivability issues
- unlike some competitors, we don’t need a heavy duty mesh screen to clean-up the airflow going across the meter
- our 2015 CAI provides better off throttle to on throttle response compared to larger meters, without sacrificing hp gains
- we utilize a CNC bellmouth velocity stack design which is designed for clean airflow
- our kit provides more mid-range torque than the competition
- roto-molded mass air housings are inconsistent in size and inside wall finish, whereas our CNC billet mass air housings are very consistent, straight and smooth

Thanks for the info Dave,
I'm glad I ordered the Steeda CAI.
