What's it supposed to do?

Go ahead a throw it on. You've got a temp gauge, just pay attention.

ETA: I just checked it out. Probably quality, probably a waste of money unless you take your car to a track regularly. It's looks like it's meant for racing applications, to stop temps from soaring.

Trying to reduce head temps. Daily driver in heavy traffic in tx heat plus daily hard driving. Was hoping someone had installed one and had any reviews.

Regulates temp at 160 instead of 180.

Can you share a pic? Curious if it looks like website pic.

I say go for it. If it look 1/10th as good as their website pic then it's very high quality.

I could be wrong, but don't you have to update the ecu via a tune to take advantage of the lower thermostat? Something to do with getting the fans to kick on sooner, or something?

I could be wrong too, but it's my understanding that changing the fans in the tune only improves the additional cooling from a lower temp thermostat. Installing the lower temp thermostat by itself and not updating the fans via tune will still allow coolant to go through the hot engine sooner, so in theory your engine temps should stay cooler with just the new thermostat. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You'll be fine with the stock thermostat even in Texas heat. What I hate about lower temp thermostats is they ruin your heater in the winter making it not as warm. I learned that the hard way with a 160 degree thermostat. The 180's might be better in that regard.

The other problem is this keeps a constant open coolant loop going through the engine when its most likely not even necessary.

My opinion would be that is it for track racing applications in hot areas. For everyday driving: I'm not so certain you'd do anything but make the heater less efficient. I could be wrong. For a little extra cooling effect, maybe try a coolant additive like water wetter or Lucas 10640. People always forget about chemistry!

Used 160 thermostats on several makes & models but never tried on my '11 Coyote or Voodoo.

They do work. Some cars I reprogrammed fans, some did not and some had mechanical fans. They work with or without adjusting fan. I didn't change for purpose of reducing temp during traffic so reprogramming fan might complement the thermostat well for your goal.

Stock high temp thermostats are for emissions, efficiency and other factors. I have no doubt without those criteria factory would install 160.

Never noticed them negatively effecting the heater. I used most of those cars in a climate that snowed 3-10 days each year.
