I love me some GT500, but let’s see how crazy some of you really are. Post those dirty little secrets, whatever they may be. As long as it has a motor, it counts. The side projects...

Here is my SVT Lightning to start things off....

Had a 2000 when Ford first released them In that configuration. Use to have so much fun with the guys that had 911’s. The wtf is that look at the next light never got old. It’s really cool there are some still around in great condition. Kudos. I sold the truck six months later with 5k on the odometer for 20% more then I bought it for. If memory serves me correct a paid 28.5k brand new. Good friend was a GM of a large Ford dealer here at the time.

Just getting started on mine.

While waiting for the GT500 I decided I wanted something different. Something lighter, with a manual transmission, something that still maintained that analog feel but bridged the gap to modern cars. A V8 and good power was still a requirement.

The answer was a 2004 C5 Z06 with 18k miles on the clock. Nearly stock but won’t remain that way for long.

Why LS swap something else when you can just get the LS in a great chassis to start with.

The car will be a dual purpose auto-x / track car but still will maintain its street ability at least for now.

looking forward to digging in and have big plans.

I don’t have great pictures but it does have 2 sets of new wheels from our friend T for the road and the track.

I’ve always had a Jeep, Mustang, or both. This is my daily/project I picked up sub-$2k. It’s an Overland with the 4.7HO/Quadradrive driveline and it’s a very comfy, capable gas hog.

I’ve done a bunch of misc stuff to it to bring it current with maintenance. Next major things are steering box and valve stem seals. It’s a little smokey but the engine is still very strong.

This is the thorn in my side. It’s two states away and I am trying to get a plan to bring it to where I am now. This was my first GT... and something I have a very strong connection to (this was when it was still on the road - it had been sitting for about 7 years until the pandemic afforded me about 3 weeks to start to bring it back to life).

It took a bit to find this one. Seems like the values on them used are fairly high when in good shape

I forgot to ask you when the first track day for this will be?
T: That is THE MOST beautiful Lightning I've ever seen! The COLORS! OMG and the side pipes, too!

WOW!
KB I appreciate it man. Never had a street truck and this is pretty cool. Gets some thumbs up now and again. Just wish it was as fast as your car.

I JUST got this thing together a couple days ago. I am looking for a truck show to crash now.

I bet the jeep is fun. Miss my Raptor for offroad stuff. Why did you have to get it moved so quickly?
I am building a Factory Five racing 35 truck with a 505HP LS7. Should be a pretty quick truck.

I had no idea Factory 5 did truck bodies also. I sense much anger and heartbreak from the LS....

I have not been on the F5 site or forums in a few years; didn’t even know they did classic truck bodies now.... interesting build for sure!

Impressive! So what did you do to the engine, any upgrades? Sure looks like it would be a fun drive with all that open land.

Really neat, you did a lot of work to it!

In your town or State, is something like that street legal?

Do you have a lot of land to open it up?

Here in NJ you sometimes see the VW buggies with the fiberglass bodies show up on Craigslist. Some are street legal versions, others are purely fun factor off-roaders. The only thing is, here in NJ there’s not many areas you can actually drive them off-road. Some of the beaches here you can get an annual Beach Buggy (or 4x4) permit to drive on the beaches for fishing, but when it’s “in season” (usually June-early Sept), there’s too many people on the beaches during prime time hours to even venture on and drive... Then when the Fall months arrive, owners of buggies or 4x4 vehicles have their turn at ruling the beaches, but can’t “tear them up” so to speak, they are just allowed to cruise on them (and most if not all beaches are just flat around here).

Some of the State Forrests here have trails that are used by the public, but too many people have just been ignorant and careless with creating excessive mud holes and tearing up the land. In some areas a Driver can now be fined for being off-road because the Forestry Service got tired of the trash/litter, the damages to Fire Trails, damages to Fire Towers, people dumping appliances/tires, having to go in to “rescue” stuck drivers, etc, etc...
