The whole car.
OK that’s better. Get a price for the front clip, (full hood, full front fenders, entire front bumper, headlights, and mirrors. Then add the area behind the rear tires, “A” pillars (this includes the top front of the roof) and lastly, the rocker panels. Price it out by section and do as your budget allows.

I always try to buy my new cars(24 so far) without the dealer applying their 'dealer' decal on the back. If they do, I just heat it off with my wife's hairdryer and some goo gone.
I've told them not to wash it too, but that's been a fail on over half of them.

I've had badges that they actually have on the car with holes made in the body... unfreaking believable.

He says yes and to make sure to tell your salesman to ONLY do the following:

  • Only Wash Vehicle
  • No wax
  • pH neutral no wax car shampoo
  • Fresh soapy solution for my car
  • Microfiber or car blower to dry
  • No dressing inside or out
  • No tire dressing
  • No paint sealants
I would agree with those rules. I waited about 2 weeks before doing any detailing and 6 weeks before doing the ceramic coating. The catch here was the car saw very little road time before the ceramic coat. Less than 50 miles.

The reason I like to wait about 2-3 months before Appling a sealant is to give the paint time to out gas before being sealed. This is only applicable if you know about when the car was built. With HEP it was less than 14 days old when I got the car.
Honestly, I am not sure it is necessary to wait before sealing with the new paints and methods. I do know that when oue Explorer was repainted they said to wait 3months before even waxing. However, I know that a body shop paint is not an factory paint finish.

I want to at least see if it’s beat up. Without at least washing it, how to check?
Twice I have bought vehicles that were dirty and twice I had issues. One was so bad the dealer had to take it back.

I bought a 2015 F-150 Lariat. It was black, but obviously had been sitting on the lot for quite some time, and was quite dusty. I agreed to the terms and went to fill out paperwork. In the meantime, the dealership took the truck back to be detailed and gassed up. By the time I was finished signing the papers, it was pitch black outside, remember this was a black truck. The next day it was raining.

On day three I was walking out to my truck to go to lunch, and noticed 1/4" spots all over it (every square inch of the truck). Knowing it rained the day before, I assumed they were just water spots and figured I would take care of them the next day. On day 4 I washed the truck myself, and set about getting rid of the spots. As they didn't wash off, I figured I would get out my DA and buff them with some good quality polish. This also did nothing to the spots.

I called the dealership and told them, and they worked with me to fix the issue. They first had a their detailer try and fix it, and then had a pro detailer look at it, and they were not able to get rid of them. Then they had me take it to the body shop to get an estimate on having it repainted as it was obviously a clear coat issue. When they got a quote for $9k, they said there was no way they could do that, and how much would they have to pay me to take the truck anyway.

To make a long story short, luckily they wound up taking the truck back in to trade for a nearly identical one from a related dealership down the street.

The second time was on my current '21 Mustang. It was dusty again, but seeing as how this one was brand new, I didn't think there would be much to worry about. However, again after they washed it I found a 6" round spot on the quarter panel that had a rough texture and no shine at all to it. I also found a deep scratch on the rear bumper, and some small scratches on the hood. All of these were hidden by the dirt. I just picked my car back up yesterday from the body shop, and all is good now.

So the moral of the story is, get your car washed and check it out before signing the papers, even if it is the dealer that is doing the wash. Dust can hide a lot of imperfections.

Tough situation for sure. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Maybe the happy medium is to just have the car rinsed without them actually touching the surface.

Or it could just be that your just a very unlucky person. :giggle: :like:

My vote is to just let them wash the car and either blow dry it or leave it wet and deliver that way.
