There's something definitely more wear around the yoke end of your shifter rod. You stated you have about 60k on the car, and I'd say that compares to what you see for the one in my pic.

Upon closer inspection of my shifter rod, I learned that a more critical dimension at the bottom of this component is inside. See the 122.24 mm dimension below (The lower portion is actually a tube and the inside surface takes the brunt of force, when you push the shifter's disengage button to permit movement between PRNDS).

So while your level of exterior wear seems unusual compared to mine, you'll want to focus on that 122.24 dimension. Remember of course, my dimensions are of a part that is not new either.

I'm not set up to sell items, unfortunately for your situation. But hopefully this post will give you more information to see what your options are.

Thanks for the detailed and clear explanation.
As soon as the calipers arrive, I would like to measure them.
After all, this part is not sold by itself, is it?The only way to fix it is through assembly.

Great! Depending on what you find once you have the calipers and can get measurements, I may have a solution. But....we need to know your starting dimensions before I can make recommendations.

I measured the wear and found that it was only margin of error.
Can even the slightest wear cause an error?

In my case I was only about 1 mm off between what worked and what didn't. The info I shared earlier was based on my numbers, and not a Ford spec, as I am not privy to their data.

Okay, I see that there could be a problem with the rods.
Tried contact spray to no avail.
I wish I could replace only the rods with new ones, but I can't find rods only for sale.Have you seen rods only for sale?

I finally solved this problem by replacing the microswitch.
The part number is Omron D2QW-C073H.
Replacing this switch solved the problem of the shift lock not working properly and the problem of it not going into P.
Anyone having this problem should give this a try.
