When I ordered my 2015 Mustang GT-PP this is exactly the sort of thing I hoped to do with it. It only took 5 years for it to happen thanks to my summer work schedule. I've had plenty of time to modify it though. For this first OTD I ran my stock PP1 wheels with the stock P-zero tires (255F, 275R).
The video below is from Waterford Hills Raceway open track day, novice H1, session 4, laps 4-6. Decent times (1.22.9 was my best lap) for my first day on a road coarse. I HAD A BLAST. Turned out I could do the whole track in 3rd. I did a couple laps grabbing 2nd for the hill climb and 4th on the back straight but the time in 2 and 4 were SO short I decided to stay in 3rd and focus on everything else.
This video (all the sweet data overlaid) was made with the App "RaceChrono Pro".
My phone connects to:
camera - GoPro Hero 7 Black
gps receiver - QStarz BL-1000GT
data from the car - OBDLink MX+
I put heat wrap on the exhaust near the diff as a precaution after reading some guys doing road coarse days were getting overheated diffs.
Got a little carried away with Painters tape thinking there might be a lot of rocks on the track (there wasn't). I won't bother with painters tape next time.
Track Prep included:
- inspected EVERYTHING
- installed Hawk HP Plus brake pads F&R
- $10 in painters tape
- Titanium exhaust wrap near the rear diff
- bought track day insurance
