If you baby your car during break-in, you'll get a baby. Break it in as you intend to drive it. That's how I've broken in every new Mustang I've ever owned and mine tend to be a little quicker than average and I've never had engine problems.
This!! I broke in my 01/03 Cobra the same way.
I'll be mounting the GoPro for the ride home. I could not imagine not bouncing it off the rev limiter at least a few times on the way home. It will be broken in the second it drives off the lot. :headbang:

I just picked mine up yesterday morning and im almost 600 miles in. I've been trying to use all the gears and vary my rpms and speed, I have gone WOT several times but ive been keeping it below 6k rpm. I dont believe in going all out right away but breaking it in doesnt mean to baby the crap out of the car and keep rpms super low when the car is new. Have some fun with your car but be safe doing it.

How long are you guys or did you guys wait to "get on it"??? I am 2 days in and at 170 mi. Just curious I was about to yesterday but there was a cop hiding out. I am pretty sure 100 mi is sufficient but just curious what everyone else is doing.

I had 44 miles on my car at delivery. Mile 45 I was "on it" heading up the on ramp from 0-75 asap. :)

Thankfully in my area cops aren't a huge concern. I know my back roads well enough to hit triple digits without worries of endangering anyone or police interference. For the armchair quarterbacks, I've done this three times... On the same road where I know the residents and they know me. I gave them a heads up and they said: "nice ride have fun!"

Number one: don't risk anyone else.
Number two: if you get pulled, be polite, comply, take your likes.
Number C: know your local law enforcement well enough to know they'll say: "be careful!" And " nice ride!"

:)

Drive it like you stole it so the engine breaks in good.

Always run it hard in the beginning and it'll be around for the long run.

You never know. Every Lancer Evo that topped 5,000 rpm during the first 1,000 miles developed insolvable oil leak problems by 50K miles; those that didn't, didn't. I say take it easy, and constantly vary your revs between idle and 2,000 rpm for the first thousand miles.

Turbo engines =/= NA engines in this regard.

Cylinder pressures get to much higher levels in a turbo car, and without a fully broken-in engine, would be even higher. Without knowing the details, I'd suspect this was the cause of those leaks.

I would not suggest keeping RPMS low the whole time during break in. The high piston accelerations at high RPM makes the rods stretch a little and top-most and bottom-most lands/rings will go higher/lower in the cylinder than at low RPMS. You want to break in the cylinders the whole way. That said, don't keep it up there a lot because lots of other components need to break in too. This is why they say to vary the RPM often.

I, too, have heard with NA engines that driving them harder than "normal" in the beginning will break them in the right/better way. It seems to loosen the car up more, therefore making it quicker in the long run?
