Well, I think fudging numbers and under rating are different things. While it isn't that common for a manufacturer to actually overdeliver compared to official claims, its not unheard of. So, they're holding back to get an edge over the competition. But it still isn't standard practice. I don't see that as the bad thing that claiming more than actually producing would be (like '99 Cobra). But at the same time, as more manufacturers move to Certified power numbers, its becoming more common for HP claims to jump somewhat without actual changes.
There is the key statement. Knowing actual drivetrain loss would get us a closer number. I'm sure at the time Ford could have sandbagged a little I suppose.
If you've been away from the forum for any length of time, you may have missed it, but the Dealer Source Book was leaked pretty recently that shows the curb weights. Those figures seem to indicate that the car actually may have gained a little weight, but nowhere near the figures Steeda was claiming... more like 80lbs or so for the GT. However, there are some questions about how those cars were optioned, as well as 'inconsistencies' in the numbers between the trims/transmissions that won't be cleared up until we get more information and the car hits the scales in various trims in a month or two.
Back in 01 and 03, that was the accepted % among car enthusiasts and reputable dyno shops. My quarter mile times and MPH backed up those #'s as well. Trying to find my timeslips but having a hard time locating them :(
Got a call from ford today and wanted to know if i wanted to test drive the new stang on Sept 20th at my dealer at 10:00. So I say of course!
