Hi All Fellow S550 Mustangers. Just thinking about the computer in my car as in the Sync 3?

My capped price servicings have finished therefore causing the costs to nearly double when and if I get another genuine Ford dealer servicing. (Not forgetting the cost to throw the dirty cleaning rags in the bin for $25!).

So I am considering doing the mechanical side of the servicing myself (oil, coolant, spark plugs and whatever else I can do), (And throw the rags in the bin myself for $0) at the applicable intervals.

But not the computerised requirements as in the Sync 3 update. (I can check and clear codes with an OBD reader).

Does Ford need to know the status of ones car either by the genuine dealer servicing or maybe the CanBus (to Ford via the internet).

Might sound a bit weird but with these new fangled computerised cars, if they are not updated, they wont start? I don't have FordPass on my mobile phone.

I might be thinking out of the square, but give me a 1974 Valiant Charger any day lol.

Try searching the Infotainment forum, and then post your question if necessary.

I last updated my Sync software while my car was parked in my garage by connecting to my home network and then doing the update wirelessly. Worked great.

Agree with GTP, good information in the forum. There are some delays & differences for Aussie cars. Personally I've been running the https://cyanlabs.net/ updates to Sync & maps for a few years now with no issues.

Thanks GTP. I've dropped down to the mentioned forum posts and read quite a few. I will also ask about the sync in a further question. But thanks again for your help. Rick.

Thanks Andrew. I've replied to GTP and have read a few posts. I've also checked the website that you have in your post. Crikey there's a lot in it. With the error codes and everything else that can happen to Sync is mind boggling! I just hope nothing goes wrong with mine. I've put another post on the page hoping that someone may have an idea about another question I have about the Sync. Cheers, Rick.

Hi all again and Happy Easter. Having read quite a few posts about Sync and am just wondering if I really need to update it at all? I don't bluetooth my phone, don't have apps installed, don't really use voice commands, haven't got FordPass on my phone and am happy with the currently installed ways of use and features including the horse picture. Yep, I'm living in the dark ages but for me personally, do I just keep on keeping on with the way it is? Or at some stage WILL it need to be updated. I don't know if I'm paranoid about big brother aka Ford wanting to know how my Mustang is going via the Canbus (is this the inbuilt device always transmitting to Ford even if your car is off and parked in the garage?) or what? Hey, they reckon Teslas are always transmitting and can have features turned off? It's the "smart" car age I hear. Anyway, thoughts anyone?
My Sync version is 3.0.
TIA. Rick (Fangster).

Happy Easter.

I got the email to update to Sync 3 a LOOONNNGGGG time ago. Never did it. lol
I barely drive the car and never really use any of the "creature comforts", if you will, so I don't notice any difference.

Good luck.

Thanks Stage, Yep I think I will keep going without updating and see how it goes. I mean, hell it's only an internal combustion engine without a brain? Hopefully I tell it what to do.
Cheers, Rick
