So yesterday I was driving home from work and the music shut off while the screen went weird with colored lines. Then the system completely turned off. Buttons do nothing and not even the backlight is on the LCD screen. I get home and turn off the car, open and close the door, and then restart the car. Sync is back up, so I chalk it up as a fluke.

Tonight I am halfway home and again the music turns off, screen goes colored lines before completely turning off. I stopped for gas and turned off the car. Get back in and Sync no longer turns on. Completely dead. Stop to pick up food and again turn off the car, this time for about 15 minutes. Come back and again it's completely dead. I get home and let the car sit off for a couple hours. I went out and tried it again, Sync still dead.

Anybody have this problem? Any tricks for resetting the system? All the master reset instructions I found are only for when the system is on. Fuses all look fine. I plan to take the car to dealer but in the meantime I am open to try things to get it going. Sucks having no tunes or backup camera.

Just an update. I tried it again and it turned on. So I did a master reset. Then as I was putting my settings back the screen did the lines and then it completely shutdown. So I disconnected the car battery. I turn the car on and Sync starts up briefly before going back to lines and shutting completely off. So it looks like this is just a bum system. Off to the dealer hopefully on Sat.

Really sounds like a loose connector. Good luck!

This is normal...lol. I had this happen on my 15 with only 550 miles before I got rid of it. Looks like the problem still exists with the 16s. Tried to get my dealer to fix it but they said the mechanic couldn't "replicate" it so they couldn't fix it.

Was working fine again this morning until I made it to work. As I was pulling into a spot, the system completely shut down. It appears to me that it's overheating. The mornings are cooler so it lasts a little longer before dying. In the evenings here in Cali lately its been in the 80s which is why it dies part way through my trip home. Reminds me of the old PS3s, where the chip on the board would separate from its thermopaste and cause the orange light of death.

Dealer says it's a bad APIM. They were able to replicate the issue on Saturday and pull some error information. I have to drop the car off tomorrow evening after work where they will keep it for a couple days while they tear apart the interior to replace it.
