Installing a Glowshift gauge and I'm trying to figure what's a good place to get headlamp 12v source from?

Per instructions:
"Connect the orange wire to the positive 12 volt headlamp source. This wire enables the Nighttime Dimming feature which decreases the brightness of the gauge face by 50% when the headlights are turned on. This step is optional and will not affect the operation of the gauge if it is omitted. • Note: Do not connect the orange wire to a dimmer wheel. This will cause the gauge lighting to flicker."

Thanks.

I am resurrecting this thread, I too am trying to install a glowshift gauge.
Anyone out there find how to connect your glowshift gauge to the positive 12 volt headlamp source?

Upon Further digging, I found a solution. @wildcatgoal came up with a workable solution, posted HERE. Tap a wire going to a running light that comes on when the head lamps come on. I am assuming I'll have to remove the fascia, tap the wire and run it back into the cabin and connect to the "Orange wire" on the glow shift gauge. Not sure I really want to do all that to dim the gauge 30%. Perhaps if I have the Fascia off for some other reason.

I never figured this out either as all the wires going in/out of the headlight switch only have 5v. They’re just 5v as they go to/from the BCM and the BCM triggers the relays to switch 12v to the headlights and I didn’t want to keep digging and find one of the 12v out to the headlights and pull that back to the gauge.

If you run them without the orange wire dimmmer are they good to deal with as far as brightness ? Can you still see around them and can you even run without the orange hooked up?
