These are two features I wish the 2015 had. The fusion has a heated steering wheel; many coupes havs sunroofs

Mustangs normally have sunroof or moonroof options as well. This is the first model year of a new platform. Ford will get there eventually on this model. I'd rather have a cooled steering wheel option though  (live in AZ).

Yes, but not many offer a convertible. That makes the business case for the sunroof more difficult, even though they don't necessarily both appeal to the same customer.

Does anyone know what the take rate was for the glass roof on S197? Given that they carried it forward during the 2010 facelift tells me it sold well enough to be considered. But the fact that they didn't want to retool it (thus the regular roof was unchanged) in the process tells me that it wasn't high enough to justify new costs. Obviously, it wasn't a priority this time around.

Well, there were t-top or sunroof options for various years of 2nd & 3rd gen Mustangs, but the 2nd didn't have a 'vert, and the Fox convertible came 5 years after launch. No sunroof on 4th gen, and 5th got the glass roof late. I'm not sure I'd call that "normally", but it makes up about half of of the total run.

Even if there was a sunroof on offer, I don't think I'd take it only because I love that double bubble rood it already has.

My #1 missing "wish list" is a sun roof. I tell everybody that I bought a loaded Mustang, and they're always like "does it have a sunroof?" and I'm like Mustangs don't offer sunroofs and then they look at me quizzically.

Camaros have sunroofs. Challengers have sunroofs. Every single car in the world has a sunroof, except the Mustang, for whatever reason. The only thing I can think of is that they don't want to mess with the aerodynamics, since because of the gigantic glass on the fastback the sunroof glass would have to be external to the roof when pulled back.

Or... that you are buying a performance vehicle and a moonroof weighs 30+lbs on the worst possible spot you can have... ?

You can get a sunroof on a Porsche 911, a BMW M4, or a Lancer Evolution.

True, but those manufacturers also offer sport packages for cars with automatic transmissions and *GASP* even convertibles!!!! Ford clearly knows better.

On the other hand, I hate sunroofs. Most cars that come loaded have them included in the premium packages and I end up with one because I don't have a choice.

I think more "bundled" options should have a "everything except that one" option. Please see black painted performance wheels elsewhere on this forum. ;) And I see no reason why a sunroof is not offered on the Mustang. Just don't make it a mandatory part of the 401A package (until after my car is delivered).

Agree 100%...The number one thing missing in this car for me is a sunroof. I use mine 10 or 11 months a year and when it isn't open the shade is back so the sunlight can shine in..

Does anyone know where this stand..I heard it was never going to happen and then I heard someone from Ford stated it wasn't going to happen at release. This caused speculation that a sunroof was on the way. I don't see it happening with the car relying on the lines on the roof...

I don't mind there being no sunroof/moonroof, never liked them anyways. As for heated steering wheels, I would never drive my mustang in the winter!

Good question for Tricia, but she may not have info on future plans or the authority to verify it.

A moon roof would be easy to add to this car. A sun roof would need to raise up and slide over the roof and overhang the rear window (the Gen3 Eclipse sun roof works this way). The SIRIUS antenna would need clearance and it would have to account for an open trunk lid.

Sunroofs are completely worthless from my ample experience. They are always nice in theory. Hey I have a sun/ moon roof and I could use it on x y and z day! Then you never do. And when you do it adds nothing to the experience.

Favorite parts about having a sunroof:

- On really hot days it helps the hot air escape from the car quicker after you get in.
- Venting it prevents the pressure buildup that you normally get when you have one window open and the other(s) closed.
- On my old car I use to like just sticking a cigarette up through it to pull off the ash while I was driving, but there's no smoking in my Mustang.
- When it's raining but too cold to run the air conditioner you can open the vent to prevent moisture buildup from fogging the interior windows without getting the inside of the car wet like you would opening the regular windows.
- Whenever the air gets stuffy / smelly in the car but it's too cold to open the windows, the putting on the heat blower and opening the vent allows you to circulate air out of the passenger compartment without letting the windows open and cooling the cabin down.

And this doesn't really apply to me since you can't see any stars where I live, but it's nice sometimes when you're out in some rural area where there are stars to be able to park the car and put the seat back and stare up at them for a while.

I am very happy there is no sunroof option.

I can't stand having the sun beating down on my head. Happy it isn't an option because it seems all the dealers order the sunroof for their lot vehicles. So you have pretty much no choice but to pay the premium for one or custom order.

I've had sunroofs on a number of cars. Its a nice idea, but the frequency that I actually open it is small. OTOH, having the sunroof on my SUV provides the only way I've got for strapping the front of my kayak to the roof rack. I stand on the seats through the roof to put the strap in place. But that's not an issue for a Mustang. I've seen a lot of cars with sunroof problems, especially as the car ages. Mostly stemming from water leaks and plugged drain tubes, but also due to motor or control failures. Its one more system that can lead to problems and money, not to mention that its extra weight way above the CG.

All of that said, it would totally kick ass if Ford gave S550 the same type of full-roof sliding roof that the MKZ offers...
