Is this possible? I was thinking about getting a compact spare. But now I’m looking at my summer tires on rims in my garage and wondering if I could just put one of the front summer tires in the spare storage space under the trunk and buy a jack/lug wrench. Then when I take the winter tires off I’d put a winter tire in the trunk.

in an emergency for a short drive would I destroy the front summer tire (or front winter tire in the summer) if I drove with it on the back or the wrong side on the front?

Come on Steve, you own a $50k Mustang. Just buy the darn compact spare. This way you do not need to worry about ruining an expensive tire.

And by the way the answer to your question is maybe.

I know. Just buy the spare but I’m also think of how much a full sized summer tire weighs over the rear axle in the winter.

Meh. Use your wife instead. Has the added benefit of keeping the whining sounds out of the cabin.

A/S tires are less than 150. Spare wheels are $100 or less. Why would you carry a spare that "doesn't work" for 1/2 the year?

How does the AA spare or, for that matter, a summer tire in the trunk not work for 1/2 the year? It's a "spare". You're going to put it on, get home, and then deal with the issue.

What I find fascinating is the amount of money folks on here put into their Mustangs. Wheels, tires, exhausts, tunes, stripes, interior & exterior trim, SC & turbo's, even $70.00 for a pair of stupid trunk struts (that would be me). But spend a few hundred for a safety item and some people go nuts. That's what I said to OP and I stand by it.

one use of a summer tire in the depths of winter may well destroy it. Assuming it gets you home first. A winter tire used during the summer will likely be just fine aside from elevated wear rate.

You missed my point. I have the AA spare. I was just wondering why either of the mentioned tires wouldn't work for half the year.

Yeah sorry. My post should not have been a reply to yours. It was a standalone comment.
