Dealer can't figure it our and wanting to see if anyone has experienced this. A noticeable metallic rattling/spinning noise coming from what seems to be coming from center of the car at precisely 3800RPM and above in neutral, stopped or accelerating. Makes no difference. No previous clutch or engine issues. Thought surely it was a loose clamp or heat shield but everything checks out. Any thoughts appreciated.

Ford service tech here says itā€™s the scatter shield rattling. He days he seen it on GTs too.

With all the posts we have seen about noises, vibration and such we have never heard about a scatter shield, unless you have the Shelby transmission cooling shield installed and thatā€™s itā€™s new name!

I believe itā€™s protection from clutch/flywheel failure.

Hmm, I wonder if that is what I am hearing at precisely 2500 RPM in my GT. It sounds like a shield rattling but I have not been able to track down what.

Iā€™ve pulled the transmission in my last GT350. There is no scatter shield. Your rattle is coming from elsewhere. Get the car up in the air and start tapping around until you find the noise. Also check to be sure itā€™s not the collar on the shifter

I too have a rattle that I first noticed around 1,800 miles. The sound can be heard from about 2,300 - 3,500 RPM's, then fades away as the car warms up. One of my buddies has a 17' GT350 that demonstrates the exact same characteristics. We have not been able to determine the cause but it would make sense if it is some sort of shield.

It sounds like ā€˜Skillmanā€™ is referring to a starter index plate.Itā€™s a metal plate that goes between the block and bellhousing. Skillman.... is that it???

I have no idea. The tech and service guy call it a scatter shield. This is being replaced today on one of my Rā€™s.
