Small update -

1) Shipped the head unit off to ProCharger, they put it onto their test bench and could not reproduce the "tap". They pulled the case apart and inspected the gears and whatnot - everything looks perfect. Bitter sweet....

2) I put my old accessory belt back on, no tap...motor purrs like the day I picked her up.

So I've ruled out the motor, all OEM accessories, and the ProCharger. The last three culprits are the ProCharger pulleys.

Anyone had a pulley go bad before? My ProCharger head unit should be back on Friday and I can resume my witch hunt....

Oh Christ that reminds me of my first V-1 straight cut great Vortec, drove me nuts from day one. Sounded like metal eating crickets inside, it was embarrising to drive. Vortec said it was normal but loader than some. I ended up trading for a V-2 with helical gears which was much better. After selling that I moved on to twin screw supercharger for the instant torque and becuase they sound dead quite at idle, never any of that gear clashing crap from centi units. I like a powerful street car and it must sound reasonable at idle or I won't have it.

I am glad someone else has chimed in here and said not normal I showed this video to a few other people who have procharger cars not particularly mustangs but none of them exhibit any kind of noise like this.

Did you verify this is the head unit by removing the belt? I would def contact procharger again if i was you.

Doesn't sound normal to me at all, sounds like a bearing in an idler is upset about something, or something is contacting something. Very odd.

Glad to hear the blower inspected to be fine. (which I would expect, it would be very very very very very rare to have a unit issue). The idler bearings are the same as what is used in high speed alternators in OEM applications, so they are usually just as good or better as that.

Just make sure the tensioner isn't bottoming out and causing a taping sound.

I'm clearly not hearing what you guys are hearing in the video he posted ...Mine sounds just like his sounds in the video .. I don't hear a taping in mine or his , I do have a lot of gear rattling that sounds to me like the back lash in the gears ..

I checked mine and the belt is tight but not so tight that the Spring adjuster is not maxed out causing a tapping sound.. If I was the poster I would check that ASAP .. There are timing marks on the adjuster that you can use so not to have it to tight .. That is how I set mine ..

Take it to what shop ? Procharger said mine sounds normal .. So I guess I should pull it off and send it to procharger like the OP just to have it sent back with a note : no problem found ... I have a 3 year warrantee on my head unit , if it takes a dump then I'll send it back ..

Very true,

The whine is normally, and if its a strait cut gear (none "H") the rattle is normal at idle. However the OP has a "Tapping" sound that is NOT normal.

Man re-listen to that video especially the first few seconds if you cant hear it, turn it up louder. I mean my wife heard me play the video and said "omg what is wrong with that car" The blower only does it the first few mins of running.
