From 1 to about 40 mph steering wheel wobbles/shakes back and forth. If I let go it naturally steers the car to the left. I had my tires balanced and that didn’t fix anything. Curious if anyone has had a similar issue or an idea about the cause. Google mentions tire rods or ball joints. It’s a 2019 gt with almost 50k miles on it. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks

UPDATE:

Replaced 2 front tires and got an alignment, everything is smooth. Had 20 loose lug nuts though, wasn’t aware about retorquing lugs after my last tire balance so that’s potentially why my alignment went out of whack. Thanks for everyone helping and lending ideas. I appreciate it. Take care :)

Take it to a trustworthy shop and have them check out the front suspension.
Tire balance is unlikely to cause what you describe. What you describe will absolutely ruin your tires though.

That’s definitely going to be my next step, thanks for the input my friend :)

Actually, that sounds like a tire with a slipped belt.
It should be easy to see with the car on a lift, spinning the tire and looking for wobble.

Tires more than likely.
Front end test:
Jack up and wiggle the car left to right and up and down to diagnose if its a hub bearing.
Shove a 3' screwdriver underneath the tire and lift up on it while someone checks all the front end parts the tie rods and ball joints.
Push on the top of the car down on each side and notice how the struts respond to pressure correctly.

Sounds good my friend, I’ll try to see if that’s the issue. I appreciate the information!

Thanks for the detailed response, I’ll test this out pretty soon! Wishing you the best my friend :)

Wobbles can have different and many causes. The most common is a cyclical wobble that might change with road speed. In that case, it could be wheel / tire balance, a bent wheel, tire out of round (belt slipped), or even a brake rotor that’s warped or has severe thickness deviation. A wheel bearing problem could cause this as well, but it’s likely there would be other symptoms well before it got that bad. It’s usually in the tire / wheel assembly. The brake rotor is rare but possible. If it was me, I’d start with a balance check, and see if a road force matching is required. While the wheel and tire assembly is on the balancer, it can be visually checked for a bent wheel or tire out of round.

Sounds good, I called ford and plan to bring it in Monday. I don’t have access or know anyone with a shop where I could bring it in and look for myself but hopefully they do a thorough check and remain honest with me. Thanks for sharing what you know and giving solid information :) have a good night

No jack or spare lol I’ll check to see if a wheel is bent, thanks for the advice my friend 👍
Hello; If you have any sort of jack at home the car can be jacked up and the tires moved to a different spot. Front to rear and rear to front. If the vibration changes a clue it is a wheel/tire. If it stays the same a clue somewhere else.

I see you are in SC so may not have winter potholes. I worked in Brunswick County NC back in 1998-1999. lived at Boiling Springs Lake about five miles from Southport NC. Just north of Myrtle Beach. Even without winter potholes there were other things such as sinkholes to run over.

If you do have to go to a shop or dealer always good to have an idea of what the issue might be beforehand.

Good luck.

I do have a jack and a couple stands fortunately, I wouldn’t be able to switch them though since the rears are staggered but I could rotate them to see if the pull changes from left to right.

& yes lol South Carolina is littered with bumps, pot holes, & poor roads. The interstate/highways aren’t so bad but everywhere else seems to be :/ it is beautiful here though

I agree having an idea prior is best so they can’t just make up their own ideas, thanks for the message and best of luck to you as well :)

Definitely my friend, I had intentions of
updating the thread upon finding the resolution, hopefully it’s relatively simple 🤞
