Update

Thank you Roh92cp and Zitrosounds !! I checked the torx bolt (green arrow below) as suggested and sure enough it was loose. I no longer have the free play in my steering wheel after I torqued this bolt!

Now the light blue arrow, I didn't check this (nor the one up higher near the firewall, not pictured). Could you post the torque specs of those when you get a chance?

Awesome! I love easy fixes. So much better than taking it to the dealer. Imagine what could have happened at speed if that bolt worked itself out. Damn dealers scare me.

I say put some blue loctite on it just to be safe.
Yes it should have loctite and the other can be torqued to the same value.

Thanks! I didn't remove the bolt that I tightened, so I'm not sure if it had loctite on it or not. I guess I will remove it and put loctite on it and re-torque it.

Shawn, when you say the other bolt is the same torque value, are you talking about the lowest bolt (blue arrow in my pic) or the higher bolt(s) near the firewall (not pictured)? I'd assume they're all the same torque values. I need to go over all of them I guess, the upper one(s) looked pretty hard to access.

Yes blue arrow. The manual says to throw out the used bolt for the steering column and replace it, but I'm sure its only because they use the one time dried on Loctite.

Thanks again! If I ordered new bolts, would they come with the one-time loctite? Or is there a way I can clean these (run through a die?) and apply loctite myself and reuse?

Just put some blue Loctite on the threads no need to clean it. I found blue Loctite dries fast so get it in there and put the torque wrench to it.

I'm having the exact some issue, very playful steering. No engine replacement though.
Progressively getting worse over time.

Made a video showing pretty much the same thing.

I'll be checking the steering shaft tomorrow for loose bolts. Any pictures showing what was tightened would be helpful, they're not showing up anymore.

And details on what torx bit would save me some time too :)

Here's one of the pictures. I can't seem to get the others, and I hope I never have to login to Photobucket ever again. That site is so ad-ridden and annoying to navigate.

In this photo you can see 2 of the 4 pinch bolts of the steering linkages in the engine bay. These are the lower ones near the steering rack. There are 2 more just like them on the other end near the firewall.

Did they replace any suspension parts after the accident?
