So I have a GT (RHD) - got in the car this morning pressed the start button - Nothing! Got an error saying 'Steering assist Malfunction' Tried again a few times nothing. Went inside to lookup error - little while later came out again pressed the start button - it starts no warning errors or anything.

Any ideas anyone?

Btw this car only has 500 miles on the clock..

Did a bit of googling for you, seems quit ea few fords have had this, and that the fix was to get to a ford garage and have the car checked out (UNDER WARRANTY) and it will probably need a PCM update (which you maybe able to do from home).

It wont be a steering rack, or any of the issues with the rod, just might be an issue with an incorrect alerting system popping up due to out of date software!

Isn't it it AA premium service? Just call AA tell them you're with ford? Isn't the premium road side assist conned as some god send with superior roadside assistance, offering hotels and such if u break down in middle of nowhere?

We had a similar issue with the Nissan 370's, there was a part in the steering column, electronic, that used the wrong or didn't have enough grease, I'll have a proper look tomorrow for you, this caused a short, which told the PCM that the steering lock was faulty, this resulted in the inability of the car to start.

Yours might have been similar, went away then decided that it would come back while on the move, so closed the car down

Nissan assist weren't quit as bad, got my lowered 370 GT recovered with a special palletised truck, no way would it have got on a normal recovery wagon, but the first thing the AA guy from Nissan Assist did was check the oil :headbonk:, when it was obviously an electrical problem.

Anyway, Nissan fixed under warranty and eventually instigated a recall.

How annoying matt020876, I really feel for you.

Trouble is, all dealers are clueless with this kind of fault. Half the time they say they cant do anything until it does it again and you end up driving around praying it breaks down somewhere convenient!

Had the same sort of problem with an A Class Merc. Mercededs were no better.
