I am installing these tomorrow. The install videos show shaving away some seam sealer but it looks like it exposes some bare metal. Is there any chance of rust under the rails due to shaving the seam sealer

I just installed them last week. I only had seam sealer on one side, in one location. I've also heard that some people don't have any at all. You could probably use silicone caulk to replace the section you scrape off, but I don't think there will be any rust issues so I just installed them as-is. It appears they missed a few spots from the factory on my car, and the seams still looked good after being parked outside for a few years.

If he car is new and you just install it anyway it will gradually compress it but this will take weeks of retighteing. This is a pain but will prevent any chance of water entering the car - from what I have gleaned.
