Define "difficult to start".......

Does it crank over?

Does it just click?

Does it not do anything at all when pushing the start button?

It sounds like a spinning. But after the 2nd try it starts. I attached a photo

Does it sound like the

1) engine is turning over but not catching fire

or

2) starter is spinning, by itself, not catching on the flywheel?

I'd speculate on two things, both within the starter...something like the armature being worn/cracked/failing or the solenoid not working right, preventing the gear from engaging the flywheel correctly.

Then your starter Bendix gear isn't engaging, and you should probably replace it (the starter) asap.......

P06E9 = no engine rotation is detected during a crank event.

That is why the starting event sounds awkward and why you have intermittent no start conditions.

Pop battery cover and make sure the battery terminals and cables are not corroded. This is a common issue in the S550's. If corroded clean the cable ends and terminal tops with a wire brush or Emory paper. If the cable ends were corroded, make sure the corrosion didn't wick up into the cable wiring.

It could also be an issue where the run start relay is corroded. I think this relay may be in the junction box in the engine bay. Check the run start relay's terminal edges for any signs of corrosion. Replace relay if corroded.

If you find the relay is not corroded, check your harnesses to the starter for any damages, sighs of corrosion or make sure they are not loose and everything is secure at the starter.

A P06E9 also can trip if the crank position sensor is failing or there is a problem with the connector or wiring. Check CPS and make sure connector is secure, that it is not damaged and check same with the actual wiring harness. If necesssry, use a multimeter to test the connector pins and the CPS values. If CPS values are +/- the Ford recommended values, replace it.

If all of the above checks out after visual inspection or testing, then as stated above, replace the starter.
