Took my 15 GT PP to the track for the first time Friday night. Planned to take it pretty easy and was hoping to get into the 11s without breaking anything. Took a while to get the nerve up to get in the stage lanes lol, I was worried as the last car I took down the track had maybe 350whp and that was 5 years ago.

After a couple passes short shifting I stayed in it best I could on the 3rd pass. Hit the limiter in 4th before the traps. Pass was 11.872 at 126.9, 95.72 in the 1/8 and 2.017 60ft. Da was around 2400 at the start of the night but it had cooled down probably 10 degrees by my last and best pass.

Alright so here’s where the questions start. I’m running 305 45 18 NT05Rs, I had them at 22 psi and slipped the clutch at about 2k. Little bit of bark off the line but no wheel hop. I have the Steeda stop the hop kit and vertical links. I’m wondering if I should drop tire pressure more. I will start getting a little more aggressive on the launch but not a ton. I know a bias is ideal for a manual trans but it’s not in the cards this year. What do you radial guys run for pressure?

Here’s the big one, what gear ratio should I change to in the rear? It seems like most drop to 3.31 but I’m wondering if 3.55 will get me where I need be. Anyone regret going down to 3.31? Looks like 3.55 should get me to 137 in 4th, am I really going to run out that? Next year I’ll buy a shorter tire if I go 3.31 fyi.

Thanks!

Wanting more info here as I'm going to put a Whipple Stage 2 on my '17 GT PP. Are you still on the stock clutch? I would try the drag radials at 18lbs and see what that does. Not shocking the tires will be key, so finding the right balance of RPM and clutch slippage is what you need to do. Drag radials can be tricky on stick cars.

I'm also wondering about getting rid of the 3.73s. I don't think stepping down to 3.55s will be enough of a different. I was debating between 3.31s and 3.15s honestly.

My goal is mid-11s not trying to murder the car off the line. Come out easy and apply the power. Will upgrade the axles and go with a bias-ply as I've never had good luck with drag radials. I just doubt the stock clutch will handle it.

Yes I’m still on the stock clutch at this point, 2000 miles after the Whipple install. I’ve got a exedy dual disk sitting on my work bench but I will wait until the stock clutch starts to slip. Hoping to get back to the track on the 18th. I’m going to drop tire pressure a little more and up the launch rpm a bit.

Mid 11s shouldn’t be a problem at all, I’m shooting for 10s without 5k clutch dumps.

Cool, good luck!

I might do the clutch at the same time as the Whipple. How did you decide on the Exedy? I had a Spec clutch in my old sn95 that I beat the snot out of and it never complained. I see they have a decently priced twin disc option as well. I have also considered the Exedy, but don't know many that run one. Not all that interested in the holy grail Mantic setup. Just too much money...

I went with the Exedy because it’s a sprung center section with ceramic disks. Hopefully the sprung center section reduces some drivetrain shock. I’ve had good luck in the past with exedy clutches and this one came recommenced from BeefCake racing.

Back to the track lastnight, was hoping to find the 10s. First run of the night ended up being the best. Short shifted into 5th, if I had hit the limiter in 4th would have got in the 10s.

temps got down in the 40s after that run and could t get traction. Also was getting some scary sway on the big end with the NT05Rs at 20psi. None of that was present last time at the strip.

More practice and better weather should get me to the 10s.

Very nice! How much power are you putting down and do you have upgraded halfshafts?

Hasn’t been on the dyno, Whipple stage 2 kit/tune with 3.625 pulley and 3” cat back exhaust.

I’ve got GT350 half shafts, time will tell how strong they are.

On My 17 MT82, Whipple stage 2, 3.6 pulley and long tubes I was doing 10.8 at 136. That was in 3700DA and 3.73 rear gear. You will need 8200RPM limiter and a 28" tire to cross the traps in 4th. Also that was pump gas tune with boostane in the tank. Going to a 3.55 now allows me 144mph in 4th at 8200rpm.

That is very impressive Platinum_5.0! I would love to have a 10’s MT82. What half shafts and tires are you running,? What is your launch rpm?How many passes have you made on the half shafts?

My fastest pass is 10.6 at 141 with a 1.78 60ft. The car has a 143-144mph pass in it as it sits but I'm having some weird clutch issues where it's grabbing a weird way and falling on it's face every shift. Right now I'm on the GT 350 shafts, ET Street R tires and I'm still playing with finding the right RPM....lol. That run was slipping at 4200 I believe.

Man, that’s rippin’ down the 1/4! Are you still on the stock clutch?
