I can't believe it took till post 15 before someone brought this up. There have been numerous threads about this already. If you move your head to the right (so you're looking directly at the speedo), you will see the needle is showing the same speed. What's kind of weird, when my wife sits in the passenger seat, she gets an accurate read on speedo without having to move her head towards the speedo. Kind of crazy, but it's true.

It's pretty normal for the speedo to read faster.
Motorcycles read about 10% faster sometimes.

Every car has a speedo calibrated to show a few MPH faster than you are actually traveling. This is done for liability reasons. Imagine the lawsuits if you thought you were going X MPH, but were really going faster. Unless someone screwed with it, there shouldn't be a car out there that shows slower than actual speed. If you change the actual tire circumference you will need to adjust the speedo. Also, a digital speedo will provide the same information as an analog one. They get their information from the same place. Only a true GPS (or some other optical sensor) would provide a different reading.

Bottom line - best not to mess with this.

Too bad the speedo isn't calibrated to the GPS readout. I miss the GPS digital speed output that I have in my other car. It also displays any known speed limit.
