Hey ya'll If any of you guys can give some advice on this it be much appreciated.

The other night I got a speeding ticket and I'm not sure how to handle it as this is my first time getting a ticket other than for parking.

It was around 11:30 at night and i was driving around 60-65 in a 55mph zone. Going with the flow of traffic. I saw I was approaching a parked cop car and braked as anyone would just in case, but braked before passing him. Nothing happened after I passed him. He start driving but no lights or anything. While I continued driving a car was in front of me in the middle lane and a car was coming up a bit close behind me. As this happened I went to go into the passing lane, however once I did that the car that was behind me followed me into the passing lane, then sirens started going off and the guy tailgating me was the cop. He pulled me over and he said at that moment I was going 80. But I was surprised cause i thought still i was going maybe 70 tops but that was to accelerate to go into the passing lane, and also to get out of the way of the cop tailgating me. Also when the cop gave me the ticket he stuttered saying i was going 70 but then he corrected himself and said i was going 80. Im 23 years old and not sure what to do now. Any suggestions?

You should go to court for 2 reasons. One is if you are sure you didnot drive 80mph, you can request for proof in court. If you are not sure, go to court and as for a reduce fine and waived point on your license.

At any point did you admit to speeding verbally?

All this is after the fact so it doesn't matter if he verbally acknowledged the charge or not. It's up to you to go decide if you want to fight it. If you know you were speeding, man up and ask the PA for any options. If you have no prior record of moving violations the PA may be willing to reduce your ticket to something trivial. My last speeding ticket was reduced to a "broken headlight" because I took the time to contact the PA and ask for leniency. I also hadn't had a moving violation since 1995 so that helped. There may be driving classes that you can attend as well which will waive or suspend your ticket (usually 3 years with no further violations).

Bottom line, call a local attorney office, advice is always free, representation is what will cost you.

trial by written declaration. Theres many templates or arguments u can find online. Works pretty often, and theres always a good chance the officer doesnt respond, and you get your fine reimbursed.

Not trying to brag but I've gotten out of 9 of 10 tickets (0 for 0 on my '15!) And my advice... Get a lawyer. It costs more up front but if they get you out it will save you on insurance. Also I'm 24 so your age shouldn't matter to the court but it does to GEICO!

Is there anybody that these days takes responsibility for what he/she does ? Or that's stupid ?

Should have told him it is a 4 cylinder and it is not physically possible to go that fast.

If you were going 70 and he said 80, what is the overall difference? You might be screwed either way so I would talk to the prosecutor and try to get it changed to a non-moving violation which typically just comes with a larger fine. Insurance stays the same and no issue with your license. Good luck.

Exactly

Get a lawyer, sue, blame everyone else except yourself.

cops do this trick to get ticket (i.e. tailgating) to see how you react, so its a good opportunity/excuse to give you ticket. I remember back in my pizza delivery days when i was 19, I had a Crown Victoria (which i noticed it was a cop btw) was riding my ass as it was some jackass, not to mention, he did it in the shopping center as I was heading back to the store, it was around midnight and there was almost no one around. I hear similar stories like this for people fall into their tricks.

Also you're relatively young and drives a sports car, cops love busting individuals like you for shits and giggles, in court they would think you're a typical reckless guy being young, and judge will most likely on the cop's side, so getting a lawyer is a must, good luck. I don't know about you, but if it was me, i could've easily recognize it as a cop if it was a crown victoria.

I got a ticket that was BS, but I didn't bother fighting it because it was minor and the fine wasn't worth the hassle for me. Turned out years later when my work changed insurance carriers to be a huge pain in the ass, as they did not want to cover me for any driving I may do, which meant while traveling for work I could not drive a rental car or drive my own car. In retrospect, I should have gotten a lawyer and you should do the same. It's not about getting out of the ticket or not taking responsibility, they know all the options available to you and can help you work within the system to find the best resolution.

I got a ticket for 60 in a 45 and told the cop there's no way.... Anyways, I got a lawyer and they got improper equipment. All I had to pay was my lawyer and court costs... No points or anything... You can only get this with a lawyer....
