Speeding Ticket(s)!!!!!!

I typically go 5-7 mph over the speed limit and I use cruise control in most speeds 45+ mph with long stretches. That seems to be the sweet spot. Cops usually tag people at that 9-10 mph range because the ticket is significant at that point.

I just set my cruise at that range and I've never had a problem. I stick out like a sore thumb in Grabber Blue too. If people want to go around me going 10+ over, go for it. Just because I have a lot of horsepower doesn't mean speed everywhere.

I don't use Waze or a radar detector. I still have my moments where I do gas it around idiots and dumb drivers, but for the most part, I stick to the strategy above.

I've heard of waze and downloading it now. I'm also getting a cell phone holder. Today I really focused on my speed and it's not as fun anymore. I liked rowing the gears with more freedom. Now I'm rowing them like a sedated tiger. This is so unacceptable. I may have to get an "appliance" commuter if going to work will be this mundane.

These are still fun cars to drive. Got my 1st ticket a month after I bought my Mustang. I do the speed limit now and maybe 10 over on the New York State Thruway.

Yes to all the advice already given and ... I think it helps that my car is Black and it blends in a little more. Cars with stripes or bright colors stand out. These cars are fast enough. I can’t imagine daily driving a car with a whipple or something extreme.

I used Waze recently on a road trip and I have to say Im not impressed. You really have to be careful, by the time someone reports the police are often either not there or have changed position or moving and just because Waze says that nothing is there it certainly doesn't mean your safe to violate the speed limit. Finally with Waze, for anyone to report properly you have to engage your phone/app while driving...not a good idea. But at least here in Colorado the speed limits are typically 75, 80 in places in Utah. But yeh Waze didn't impress me at all.

That's the thing were I live and drive, which is eastern KY and western WV primarily. There just aren't a lot of users. If I swipe up the map 20 miles I might see one user. I used it one time in Cleveland and saw probably a dozen in a few miles worth. I think it's pretty valuable for cops and traffic and hazards and all if there's a lot of users around, but if it's slim pickins you're at the mercy of the last user that went your direction.

Run waze, or one of the new smart radar detectors, or both. They will display speed, and speed limit, and beep at you if you exceed by a set amount, such as 5 or 10 over. Or you could drive around with MyKey, set to 80 mph, that beeps you at 75. You might still get a speeding ticket, but it won't be too bad. One thing I would suggest is to avoid passing cars with a significant speed differential. Particularly on their passenger side.

I'm probably not the best source of advice since I've been pulled over nine times, but I HAVE learned a few things.

Don't speed anywhere the speed limit is less than 55. It's just dumb. Generally when the limit is under 55 you're in an area that's congested, residential, or has little to no shoulder.

Don't speed in the interstate unless your field of vision is very long. Cops in my area like to sit just over the crest of a hill.

Let someone else take the fall. There is almost akways someone out there going faster. Let them be the scout. DON'T be the first or last car in a group of speeders. If there is no one going faster than you, don't speed. Stay in the right lane as much as possible.

For the most part, I only speed on the interstate and except for 4th gear bursts I keep it no higher than 78 in a 70. In areas where I know I have a good chance of seeing a cop I take it to within 5mph.

Get a radar detector. People who tell you they're useless are wrong. Waze helps as well if you live somewhere with a lot of users. I dont, but I use it anyway.

I haven't had a ticket in about three years and most of my other interactions were in my 20's, and I think a big part of that is gradually adopting the rules above.

I'd also add that if you are in a lane that is open and the line next to you is going very slowly or at a stop, don't do more than 10 or 15 mph over their speed, even if it is well within the speed limit. I've had people jump into my lane from a stop and I'm doing 45 or 50 in a 55 and I've had to slam on my brakes and swerve onto the shoulder or third lane of traffic. This isn't so much a speeding thing as a safety thing, but situational awareness is vital.

Another one I would add is to get very good at seeing police cruisers and unmarked cars from a distance. Any black, white or burgundy full size sedan is a possible cruiser, especially if the windows are tinted dark and they have non-civilian wheels (like standard black with silver caps) and additional antennas. Another tell is their license plate (exempt) and cut outs in the tint to allow for hidden lights.

Best advice of all is to never do more than 5 over the limit anywhere, at anytime. This is what I do and I haven't had a speeding ticket in over 15 years, and have had 2 total in my life. One was on an Air Force base for going 27 in a 25. If you want to drive spirited, do it while accelerating onto the freeway, or better yet, go see how your local track feels under your wheels.

Countermeasures my friend! An Escort or Valentine radar detector, an Anti-Laser Priority laser jammer, and Waze in combination have saved me from tickets for over 4 years now. Just running Waze and the RD before that resulted in me getting a ticket every few months for a period of time because 90% of Ohio went to laser seemingly overnight so the laser jammers are worth their weight in gold to me!

Curious, what laser jammer do you use?

You're not using it right, it comes up on the car display on Sync 3. Don't have to touch your phone to report or view Waze. Of course it's not infallible and only as good as information provided but it reduces your chances of being caught and helped me out on a number of occasions.

Sucks to get a speeding ticket but it happens, Waze is a great app to have but is also recommended to run a radar detector and a laser jammer. I heard great things about the Uniden R3 for its great detection range. If you have the extra cash to piss away on tickets and the resultant insurance premium increases or can afford the points on your license, then by all means speed away.
Self control, imho, is always the best policy when on the road.

I've seen it in action and the only thing I don't like is the noise it makes, that chirping sound would drive me insane. Is it possible to change the noise to something similar to the Escort Redline?
