I fully expect and hope that the R will eclipse the Z28 in every possible performance metric as I feel it should considering the lofty comparatives that Ford used in development. I would be disappointed if it didn't . Would this prevent me from taking or wanting the car? Absolutely not. This car is more than enough beast for me, and may be one of the last hoorah's of exotic engine with manual combo's. For me, this car is a game changer for many other reasons than just track or quarter mile times.

Welp, the 1/4 and 0-60 times are in and they are DISMAL.

12.1@119 for the R and 12.4@118 for the regular GT350

Time to get an M4 or Z28 on order.

I'm sure you're joking, but I did get a feeling of, "why am I spending almost $60k again?" Ford has given me waaaaaaay too much time to think about this decision.

You posted the same link in another thread, those looks like theoretical times to me

True, but if I'm really after straight line acceleration times a Roush supercharger and wider rear wheels with sticky tires for my 2015 GT would be a lot cheaper.

So, I'm more nervous about being disappointed in things like steering feel, shifter feel, seating position, heel/toe pedal placement, etc.

I was at the Sebring event with 2 other Chin staff and we all loved the car. We left the pits together and were able to get a couple good laps. All of those things were great. The turn-in is exceptional. According to Mark Schaller (GT350 Brand Manager), the pedals in this car are different than the GT to aid heel-toe shifting.

I want one.

This car is causing the other guys who attended the Sebring event considerable mental anguish in terms of how to justify the numbers, considering the track cars they already own. All of us have a lot of track time and two of us have ridden in MANY different cars on racetracks around the country, and especially at Sebring. Fortunately, I've got a BRZ on order that I can just cancel.

My opinion is based on driving and riding in the "regular" GT350, not the R. I didn't want to ride in the R, because if I really liked it I wasn't sure I could justify the expense. I was extremely impressed with the non-R car. I never would have thought I'd be considering paying $60k on a Mustang for track use. I've owned 6 mustangs. None of them were suited for track use in the way I'd want and need it to be. This one is.

Thanks for the seat-of-the-pants info. I also have thought about a Mustang in the past, but never pulled the trigger due to being an IRS elitist. Now that the Mustang has one, I have a GT350 (with Track Pack) on order. Really nice to hear that you were impressed with the standard GT350, since that is what I'll be dealing with.

Also, I'm not disappointed in the 1/4 mile times released by MT either. They seem fine to me, all things considered.

I am getting very eager for these builds to pick up the pace though. Every time I drive my Z now, I'm pretending I have an 8000 RPM redline, which works great until I bounce off the limiter @ 6600.

You don’t want to know
Seems like he had some lofty expectations for the event and was not aware of its intent or of the other similar events that have already been run. At least he left wanting more, rather than less.

Rule No. 1 in Today's World of Communication: The smaller the blog, the louder and more ridiculous the complaining - at any level of expertise. I knew ahead of time exactly what I was going to get from the Track Tour, and my expectations were met. And I never was insane enough to think that Ford or the track would turn loose a bunch of drivers of varying levels on long straights where the GT 350s could have hit 170+. I also appreciated the fact that my ride-along instructor was paying excellent attention to what was going on during our laps and twice radioed ahead to have slower cars yield to us.

My order is in and has been accepted for production, and I can't wait for it to get here. I couldn't care less about a 10th in the quarter, anyone's performance estimates or one magazine's numbers when the weather or track surface was marginal for producing optimum times. :headbang:

Anyone complaining about the power of this car for a road course racetrack has zero experience on a road course racetrack. In fact, this car is probably too fast for a 3 point harness. It's very questionable to go 150mph with a 3 point harness and no H&N restraint. If this were my car, at a minimum I'd install a Schroth ASM 4 pt harness so I could use my H&N restraint. Those setups require no cutting / drilling and essentially "unplug" from the car if you don't want to use it on the street.
