Have you watched the top gear episode James May tries to drive an F1 car and can barely get it out of the pits?
Wasn't that Richard? Did James try it to?

I primarily do autocross and I'm faster in an S2000 with tires and sway bars than I am in my currently S197 with double the horsepower, suspension, and 120mm more tire contact. But I don't have an S2000 because I don't love it. I love this car.

Sure, let the Z/28 be .3 seconds faster in the hands of a pro if that really comes down to it or whatever. I didn't pay $75K.

This is exactly the reason why I am waiting till next year. Plus,....it may be a bit easier to get a R car next year. (Let's hope!! lol ) If not,...I stated it before, I'm not going to sweat it. I have my '13 GHIG Roush Stage 3, so it's all good. I really like the 2016 R car though. So if it happens, it happens. If not,..I'll look into the Hellcat. That car is beast mode. :headbang:
As for performance, I don't track or drag strip my cars. I just love fast, loud, good looking muscle cars and cars in general. Performance does play a factor in me buying this car or any car for that matter.

:headbang:For me and about 90% of the people on this thread, are not even close to a pro driver and as some have mention will never drive this car at 8/10 of its limits (more like 7/10's) Im buying this because its fast, sexy, handles great, affordable and sound phenomenal ..what more do you want?

^ those are all good reasons.

But I don't why we have to protect this car with the people are only going to drive it to a percentage of its capability. That seems like a little bit of a cop out as to why we won't see a certain level performance out of this car.

I hear what you're saying, but,.....my money, my car.
I'm not being facetious here, just saying that whether someone auto-x/road races the new Shelby is the buyer's choice.

That part is not in question at all. I'll track mine maybe twice a year. Period.

The rest will be cruising around the back roads. That's what I like to do.

Not questioning what people will do with the car, but most people aren't buying this car expecting it to underperform against similar cars unless they are just Mustang fanatics. That's the question at hand.

Remember, I'm just stirring the pot here

Then let me stir it some more.

If the track pack GT350 car does fall a second short of the Z28, or only does a 12.0 instead of an 11.8 as expected, and some folks proceed to cancel their order, then I say good riddance and don't let the door hit you on the way out. I really hope they do cancel them, such that a true enthusiast and someone who understands what this car is about can get their hands on it. Last thing I want is a bunch of keyboard/water cooler racers buying these up, only to drive them like morons, and/or engage in endless e-racing bouts, then sell the car and proclaim to the fellow keyboard racers how the hellcat/corvette/z28 is waaay faster, when they never take it to the track and just do highway pulls at night :headbonk::headbonk:

Honestly, you guys that have not seen, rode in or driven this car are attempting to believe the ones of us who have on pure faith alone. Spa2k said it right... This car is worth waiting on as it suits my needs just perfectly.

So here's how I legitimately see it...

Wait... The car will have enough flare and value that if it doesn't meet your expectations, sell it. I personally will do what I can to pass this car down to my kids as a true gamechanger of a car.

It's your money... Only you can make the call. For those of us who are not locked into a contractual agreement to accept the car, you have an opt out. If a Hellcat is more appealing to you, then this car wasn't for you in the first place, most likely. It does not launch like a GT500, but it sure as hell carves as good as any ponycar ever has.

It's your money... Make the call.

Ford is refusing to release the info on this car for a reason. The Focus RS is getting more respect from Ford when it comes to the numbers. All of this media hype with track tours and such is beyond pointless. It's now absurd!

I could care less if a focus could turn a faster lap. Won't catch me dead in one. I am sure with enough tuning you can get a dump truck make a fast lap but, I don't want to park one in my garage hehe. :clap2:

I have been fortunate to drive the gt350 and it is plenty fast. I would imagine that there will be few who will really be able to drive this car at its limits on the track. I believe this car is quite a value at its price point...really depends on what each person is looking for and expecting. More comprehensive reviews will probably be out soon to help folks decide if this car is what they really want.

What numbers have been released for the Focus? I saw that the US HP was bumped to 350 recently, but I haven't seen an 0-60, 1/4 mile, or track times. What have I been missing?

As far as GT350 performance goes, I think the standard car will not be as fast as a Z/28. If you put R-comps on the car, then it'll probably be right there or a bit faster. Ford has even implied this with their Grattan Raceway testing, when they mentioned that the regular GT350 was about as fast as a C7 Z51 and the GT350R was as fast as a 911 GT3 (the Z/28 was between those two limits).

So, I guess if the GT350 was slower than a 1LE, then I'd be disappointed.

Regarding lap times, keep in mind that most of us amateur drivers will do better in a car that inspires confidence than in a less balanced car with greater ultimate grip. However, at the same time, if a car has a higher performance envelope, we will still likely be faster (even though we can't fully exploit the limits) since running at, say, 80% of the higher limits will allow higher overall performance.

So, while a pro will be faster in a slower car than I am in my faster car, it is very likely that I will faster in a faster car, than I am in a slower car. Clear as mud, I hope.
