Adapters would be to thick wouldn't they? Cause you have to get them thick to cover the existing lugs right?
Most Ford rims and a lot of aftermarket ones (my MMDs do) have reliefs on the reverse between the lug holes. So the stock lugs sit in those recesses when you seat the wheel on the adapter lugs.

Actually the reason why is to ensure you receive the correct amount of turns via lug nut 5-8 full rotations so its safe.

a spacer large then 8 mm causes there to be short of turns which in turn is a safety issues.

option 2:

15mm spacer w/ 3" ARP studs keeps an 18x11 +56 off the strut/collar/spring and under the fenders. there is an M14x1.5 option, but you need to call ARP to have it manu'd with the correct knurl. otherwise, there is a 1/2x20 with the correct knurl widely available that bolts up fine (and was used on the S197) - longevity under extreme conditions TBD, i'll report back at the end of the season :)
