Damn 1500 deductible! Sorry this happened to ya it sucks but you may really wanna lower that sucker
Anything under $2k I'd rather just pay than file a claim. I live in the Tri-state area so a few claims under your belt will skyrocket your rates very easily. I have a pretty squeaky clean record and I pay a few hundred bucks when people pay thousands for insurance. Any cost savings by a lower deductible would have been wiped away had I filed claims for trivial things...if it's under $1k, it's always been a no brainer for me to just pay out of pocket.

I agree with the 2nd post, look for security cameras and do a police report. Is it strictly employee parking? I would doubt they drive the same vehicle tomorrow, unless it's their only vehicle.
Im JCFoster too. What a trip!

Bummed out for the OP. That mother F had to know he hit you with that much damage. Would have made a decent noise too.

Hard to tell from the pics but my headlight is pushed in as well. If it was just the bumper I would just get another. I thought it was just a headlight bracket but I stopped by a body shop this AM for a rough estimate and it looks like the headlight housing is busted (which according to the shop means you need a new headlight?). The headlight alone is $1300. Looks like the hood fender alignment is off as well which means something shifted, bent or broke. Again this was an eyeball estimate.

I called FARMERS insurance and they said I could get an estimate from one of their "preferred shops" to see if I want to proceed with filing the claim since the estimate is free. I'm obviously going to use my own shop for the actual repair. My question is whether the use of their estimate will be of any value and will it be binding on what they will pay out? Will they lowball me and am I stuck with their estimate if I bring it to another shop? Or should I just bring it to my shop and have them handle it from here on out?
Hmm. Sounds like a job for a good body shop and you're gonna have to get your insurance involved and pay the deductible. Unless of course you can identify the culprit.

Farmers' estimate is just that, an estimate. At least I know in Texas you can choose the body shop of your choice. You don't have to use one of your insurance company's preferred shops, or a shop preferred by an at fault party's insurance company.

A lady backed into my Stang a year or so ago. She had Geico and they didn't object when I took the car to a high end body shop here in Central Texas that is certified to repair very high end cars. Their hourly labor charge is more than most shops, but again, Geico approved and paid for the repairs which were over $8000. (Had to replace a rear quarter panel.). And their work was excellent.

It sucks that people want own up to their mistakes. Whoever hit your car should have left you a note and had their insurance company take care of the repairs.

Just take the Farmers estimate to the shop of your choice and have the shop review it and ask them if they can work from that estimate. Shouldn't be an issue.

A friend of mine was at a mall waiting to pull into a spot as another car was backing out. My friend was astonished as that car forcefully rammed his car and then slowly drove away as if nothing had happened.
Yeah, it's crazy. I was in a friend's car when she was waiting for a spot. Someone backed out and hit her dead center on the driver side. The guy seemed confused about why his car stopped and pulled back in the spot and did it again! He was starting a 3rd attempt by the time I got to the driver door and told him to stop.

i really hate reading shit like this. i put a dashcam in my car for this reason.
I'm going to do install one after this incident. My cousin just showed me footage from his dash cam when a tractor trailer literally took off his drivers door and fender off his Audi while he was parked...talking about serious damage over $10K.

The truck never stopped but luckily he had the indisputable footage and the other side's carrier paid out 100% no questions asked.

Unless you know your shop really well, I would go with their preferred. I had a car repaired about 10 years ago and without going into the long, sordid details, the shop billed insurance for new parts but used the old ones and a lot of body filler (major hail damage) with the exception of the trunk, which is basically what made me realize what they'd done and figure the rest out. The insurance company did nothing other than make a note of the business name for future reference. I had to pay a 1k deductible for the second time. They sent out an adjuster all over again and I showed him multiple pieces of irrefutable evidence (verified by a local dealership body shop manager with no stake in the situation), but still they did nothing but charge me a grand.

I took it to that shop because they had a reputation for doing good work. Insurance basically said it wasn't worth the effort to deal with them because it wasn't one of their preferred shops. At least with a preferred shop you have some liability on their part since the insurance company is throwing a lot of business their way and they have some sort of agreement in place.

This is one of the main reasons why I run a dash cam. It's set up to record 10 seconds before and after if there is any indication of vehicle movement. Hope everything works out for you.

Judging by the damage, it was way more than a love tap. I am pissed, not so much for the car (it can be fixed) but the thought that some people walk around this earth with no moral compass or any sense of what's right or wrong. It just burns me up that whoever did this just felt okay to take off.
Well, tonight my only wish is for cosmic karma to visit this perp.
That wicked sucks.
I agree bro. People suck these days and it's only getting worse. Good luck with your car.

Sad we have to put cameras on everything now. Whatever happened to just taking responsibility for fawking up? I'm in the process of putting up cameras at the house after having 2 wallets stolen in a month. Think I've tracked these assholes down...

I'd like to hear what you do for a dash cam as i park at work amongst people that I KNOW don't have insurance or morals either. I need to get something on my car before it happens because i already know how pissed I'll be.

Sorry bout your car man
