Solo Performance Mach XV Volume

Can anyone comment on how loud the Solo Mach XV is compared to stock?

I'm looking for something deep with no drone (which it looks like this system is), which is louder than stock but not too invasive and that is livable as a daily driver. It's not a common system here in Australia so I can't listen to it in person!

I just purchased the Mach XV and it is a great exhaust. The Mach XV is the 'quietest' of the solo exhausts you can buy.

Is it quiet? NO
Is it crazy loud? NO

Its about in the middle of the exhausts out there. there is a huge thread here about Solo exhausts and I did not see one person say the Mach XV was too loud and they had it removed. Volume is subjective but I can tell you the Mach XV is the recommended DD exhaust of their lineup. Now that doesn't mean others DD the Thunder, just saying in general...

You're going to know you have an aftermarket exhaust as it always has presence. IMHO it is a good thing!

It's not obtrusive and the cabin stays quiet while cruising, but it will give you that nice, deep rumble taking off and it will howl at WOT!

I just put a supercharger on mine and have begun thinking about how I can quiet it down. Just too loud when at WOT for me now. Sucks, actually thinking about cutting it and putting some mufflers on it.

Is it too loud because you add the supercharger, or did you find it too loud prior?

I have it. I love it. It's loud on cold starts and roars at WOT, but just cruising you don't really notice it that much. You will for a couple of weeks just because it's different, but after that time it'll just become another noise you forget. Haven't had any drone with mine, maybe if I'm sitting in a middle gear around 2k RPMs for a bit, but it's rare.

I don't really want something that's going to get too much attention, but something that is obviously aftermarket (if that makes sense). This seems to fit the bill in terms of sounding deep with no rasp or drone. Hmmm tricky!

You are going to need something with more than 1 total muffler I'm willing to bet.

Are you set on catback only?

Catback is ideal because of reversibility.

It seems like Magnaflow Street might be quieter and still deep but there are the occasional reports of drone.

Street shouldn't drone noticably competition will drone a lot.

Certainly, but to get what you're looking for in a catback is very difficult. In fact, the only one that I can say with high confidence meets your criteria is the Borla Touring catback. The Magnaflow Steet is supposed to have very little drone, but I will caution that the very bassy tone will permeate into the car more than many others. I had the JBA axleback with an X pipe (very, very similar tone to the MF street) and the volume inside the car was too much for me.

Axleback with stock resonator gives you a lot of options.

Having heard it in person at the mustang meet here in Perth I would say it's quite a deep sound but not too loud, seems to be only on hard acceleration deep into the rpm range were it gets loud...

It may just be my ears but in the videos it's seems a lot louder on idle than it does in real life. Well I hope it does anyway as I ordered one in the Black Friday sale! :headbonk:

Well find out if I should have gone with the Borla touring after all. Tell you what though having to buy any exhaust without having heard it in person is frustrating the borla touring being a case in point. The solo exhaust is slightly cheaper though if that helps.

Gotta work out how to get my car up yet safely too work under it. I wanted to get a quick jack but it's not cheap. I don't fancy trying to get the old one delivered if I go to shop. Bit of a pain that it's one big unit. Didn't really want to cut it up in case I can't stand the new one.

The MACH XV honestly sounds EXACTLY like what you are looking for. If you read through the mega-thread (just scroll down) you will probably come to that conclusion yourself haha.

For what it's worth, I have had SOLO exhausts on my lasts two cars, and I'm thrilled with them. While this time I wish I went louder, I am still very happy and would only go for another SOLO exhaust in the future. I get 0 drone, and my cabin is perfect livable for long trips with my girl (who has a habit of complaining about these types of things)
