Thanks guys, this is a pretty sweet mod. There's so many great color options.

Oh yeah, wiring should be easy. It needs a small inverter/driver to go from the car battery's DC output to AC, but beyond that it should be relatively straightforward to run the wires down to the fog lights and tap in there. That way you already have an in-cabin switch to control them.

Of course you could get fancy and wire up a dedicated switch, or make it blink or react to music.

The printer I use here for the push button start decals has a good library of adhesive translucent colors. He can cut out the exact pony design and it'll perfectly overlay on the lighted panel. Then you could customize your color or even swap colors without having to buy a whole new panel.

Wouldn't tapping in from the fog lights cause it to cut power when using the blinker? Maybe tapping directly from the fuse box inside the cabin?

My Stanginators are on the way .. and if this can be made to work with them AND not cost an obscene amount, then I am in. Subtle and very, very cool.

And, I agree they should be on when the tri-bar DRLs are on.

Finally got some downtime to play mad scientist with fun electronic glowing things! Time for pictures.

I considered LEDs, but the problem is it would be really tough to get even light distribution. These light up panels provide much brighter, more even light with basically no power consumption. The biggest issue is cutting these things. They're a sandwich of a few layers and they start to delaminate (layers separate) if you're not careful. You can see some dim spots in that last picture - that's why. I've sent out for quotes from a few companies to see if this shape can be tailor made from the factory. That or laser cutting and hope the edges are sintered shut in the process.

That would be easy job for EU models as we don't have OEM DRL and we 're modding the lights. That means all DRL cables run externally behind the grill.
Easy to hook up the lighted Pony ;)

I'm trying to imagine other cars on the street with lighted emblem and I think that to not be ridiculous, it should have very low backlight as to seem not lighted during the day, and with a subtle light at night.
Maybe I can install some dimming control?!
