That's pretty awesome. Woulda loved to do my driver's ed in a new Mustang.
Amen to that. I was stuck in a shitty little Saturn.

It's probably not your standard driving school. I have seen a few Vettes in my area that are student driver cars.
AMA (Alberta Motor Association) is about as standard as driving schools come here in Alberta. Not sure wtf is going on there. I guess they've up their game in the 25 years since I used them.

I took drivers ed in a 81' Ford Fairmont 2.3L, that was some slow driving!
Wow, I took driving school in 1979 and my driving instructor had a Fairmont too. :headbang: It was a nicer 2 door Futura model and may have even had a 302 in it as it was pretty quick which he proved to all students. On each students 1st outing he would ask to take over and drive pretty aggressively from the passenger seat (driver's side steering wheel & gas pedal and the added passenger side brake pedal) to show that he could take over if the student got in some kind of situation. To this day, I think he could still outdrive most good drivers from the passenger seat !!

Funny thing is I ended up buying and building a '79 Fairmont Futura into a DD back in 1989. Put an '85 HO 5.0L from a GT Mustang in it as well as a built AOD, Ford Motorsport 8.8" 3.27:1 T-Lok rear axle & Lowering Spring Kit, Quad Shocks, and 15" Mustang LX Phone Dial wheels on it. Car was pretty quick and handled well. It was quite the sleeper as I never did anything to the factory "old lady Powder Blue" paint job !! I improved the interior though with SVO Mustang Leather Seats & Console, GT Dash & Floor Shifter, and killer sound system. Drove that car for 100k miles before buying a brand new 1994 V6/5-Speed Mustang.

My driving school car was an 05 mustang V6. They put more nannies in it than ford so it was slower than hell but it was a great marketing tool!

Classes progress quicker leading to significantly higher efficiency. More students can be taught in less time. The GT would enable even greater efficiency (even faster class time) but the parents of the students object to having training cars with anything other than a 4 cylinder engine. The Ecoboost Mustang is, however, a temporary situation until the Focus RS is delivered. The AWD in the RS will help with efficiency during Winter classes as well!

;)

LOL...me too!

Fun times back then. Red Asphalt was a must see Drivers Ed movie. I heard they don't show that anymore.

Haha I'm having flashbacks from high school where kids with RWD bmw's ended up on the side of the road.

These cars are as tame as anything else as long as you don't do anything stupid.

Did everybody here take driver's ed? They didn't offer it in my school and I worked every weekend so I couldn't take it on weekends.

For sure. Was not offered at schools, but I took it evenings for a few weeks - can't remember how many sessions all in, too long ago.

Without driver's ed, insurance is way to expensive for the new driver. At least that was the case 25 years ago.

This was back in the early 80s; I heard DE was nixed out of the school curriculum in the late 80s. At least @ LAUSD.
