I am looking to improve the shifter. It feels pretty good, a little bit longer throw than I'd like, but pretty good casual driving. The problem is faster shifts, especially at high RPM, seem to not want to go into gear. Constantly mis-shifting, and it feels like I am going to break the damn thing.. like there is plastic holding it all together.

I was eyeballing the Barton shifter - it basically replaces the whole assembly. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it overkill? How about the Ford Racing kit, does that fix said issue?

I just installed the MGW shifter even though I had no complaints with the stock shifter and it is night and day. I would say it is one of my top three favorite mods next to tune and suspension.

Does this maintain reverse lockout functionality just like stock?

MGW changes the reverse to a push down style instead of the pull up on the collar stock style. Best shifter on the market, will install mine this weekend. Also changing your transmission fluid will help with any notchiness and smoothness, wont help with the lock out.

I also have an MGW shifter on order...I placed the order two days ago, so, I expect to see it after a little while. Install is somewhat above my ability due to lack of a proper place to install, so, I will need to get that handled, but I am looking forward to a hopefully pleasant shifting experience after this thing is installed.

If you like the pull-up reverse in the stock shifter you have several options. You can get the Barton shifter, or the blowfish bracket. You can also improve the stock shifter with the steeda shifter brace or Barton's 2 post bracket.

Getting MGW installed this saturday, I have trouble shifting into 3rd gear a lot and I freaken hate it...Hopefully this solves some of my issues I have.

Like somone said earlier, I feel like I'm gonna break the shifter sometimes

Blowfish bracket is another cheaper route and retains stock shifter .

I just installed the Barton shifter. Its much shorter and there is no slop at all. I went with the 20% reduction but they do 15% and 25% too. It is a dramatic improvement and a top notch item. If you do get it you will want to remove some of the springs that make it stiffer. I daily drive my Mustang and the it takes more effort to shift than I like at the moment so I am going to have to go in a lighten it up.

MGW is as good as shifters get. Pricey, but worth it.

I actually like the push down reverse with the MGW, it feels more solid. I don't understand why some people base their decision off of that though. Why is there a preference one way or the other?

I personally prefer the pull-up ring but really don't care much at all, so long as it has one or the other at least (i.e. not being able to just go over into reverse)
