Hello again. I got a small dent in the lower passenger side door panel that straddles the raised area. I had a mobile dent removal guy come out, and he was able to remove most of it. He said he couldn't remove the remaining portion due to its location. It isn't big enough to pay big bucks to a body shop to repaint the whole door and blend the paint into the fender. We discussed adding a little filler to the dent and covering it with a side stripe. The possible problem is that stripes are intended to be applied to flat surfaces, and these would be applied to an upside-down 'V' shaped surface. My question is whether side stripes adhere strongly enough to keep them attached to this kind of surface. Other suggestions appreciated.
I cant see the dent that well in your pic. And that may be a good thing, in the idea that its barely noticeable to others. If you put a side stripe on it, it would adhere, but it may make the dent more noticeable since like you said the area isnt flat. If that just wont cut it for you, then yes a stripe would adhere to it. DId your paint spider, or crack at all in the area? I ask that because putting the decal on it would potentially pull the paint off if you were to remove it later.
Thanks for the reply, There are no spiders or cracks. It was hit at an angle by a motorcycle tire (mine). You're correct, it is very hard to see, but you know how we Mustang owners are. When I get time, I'll try a decal. They're not expensive, so there isn't much to lose.
Is that the after picture?
If so I'd consider finding a different PDR guy for a second opinion. I've seen much worse than that taken out to be completely invisible. To do that though the interior door panels and maybe some internals would have to be removed so the inside of the dent could be accessed.
I'm not sure I could live with the result you currently have...
That's the 'after' photo. He wasn't going to charge me, but that didn't sit right with me, so I paid him $100. It was quite a bit worse before he started. If I thought it would be worth it, I would try another company. Thanks for the suggestion. It is almost invisible when the car is in the garage, but it is more evident in the sunshine.
Just now seeing this thread and thought I would chime in. The vinyl is meant to curve around any surface and mold into countors. A little bit of heat from a blow dryer helps with that process. With that said it may make that little dent more noticable, I would say just keep away from the matte colors, metallic it might just blend.
