John, are you saying your rocker panel will get replaced and painted as well !
Dan all I know is my Ford Dealer said that my rocker panel was there, but I have not seen the part, but now what everyone is saying about this, so on Monday I'm going down and ask to look at what part, or parts that did come in for the car, if I remember right I was told it was just the rocker panel that they orderd? I will let you know more on Monday after I check with my Ford dealer. John

I'm speaking from 45 years of my dads body shop experience. And like the OP I also replaced both of the rocker panel pieces with my own out of pocket expense. First of all my rockers had the exact same dings in the plastic. Second of all the new ones can only be bought with the black texture pieces attached to the paint to match urethane rocker pieces. You HAVE to separate the two pieces before painting. They are only held together with plastic push pins. Easy to separate before painting. Talk about a kick in the balls, you can not just buy the black texture rocker pieces, BUT! You can remove the new black texture piece and replace the old with the new and not have to repaint the original painted rocker section. But the whole rocker panel (both pieces) needs to be removed from the car to do so. My painted rocker panel had a tiny paint stone chip so I painted the new ones and installed both new pieces. My car is magnetic, you must use a primer, base coat and then clear coat. My car had 4 color variances. I had to do a color match to get the perfect match. This comes from experience. I'm VERY anal and picky and that is why I didn't allow the dealer to fix my car plus I have the tool, paint, booth, experience to do so. If I remember correctly the rocker panels each are around $800.00 list. Also, even your original bumper covers, rockers, gas cap door DO NOT match the painted metal / aluminum body panels. The urethane painted will never match the metal. Don't believe me? Look for yourself on ANY car.
So Scott, if i understand correctly, i can just ask the dealer to replace the old plastic piece with the new one and not have to have the metal part repainted since mine is fine !

For sure i'm calling in Monday morning and will be having a little chat with the service manager.

Thanks for the heads up.

Good enough John, we'll keep in touch . My rocker panel will take a few days to arrive at the dealership.

No way i'm letting them trash my fine metal side rocker when it can be riveted back to the new plastic piece.

Dan, I will find out more on this, and what it takes to install just the rocker panel. My rocker looks like it has chips in it, in two spots. I thought it may have been damage in shipment some how. If I remember right the rocker was around $400.00 dollars, but that was March 23rd the day my 350 showed up at my Ford dealer. More on this by the end of the day Monday. John

I want to make this clear. The black textured rocker is ABS plastic. The painted rocker portion is also not metal, It's urethane. Yes you can just replace the black abs textured plastic piece. BUT to get that black textured piece it comes with the non painted (paint to match) urethane piece attached. These two pieces must be taken apart (very easy to do) before painting.

The first photo is the Rocker Panel on my GT350

The second photo is Ford service Manual photo, of what this looks like?

The third photo is a photo of the Rocker Panel itself, and I'm Breaking the paint on my car do you have this painted, so I'm not changing mine on my GT350.

I'm hoping this helps some of you guys on this issue with the rocker panel. :ford:

That is not the same as the GT350. That looks like the GT 5.0 or lesser mustang.

Voodooo, all I can say on this is what my Dealer had ordered for my car, and the one Ford technician that only works on my car, is good and pulling up Ford manuals, that why I post the part number, if some want to look it up.

All I know is my Rocker Panel with the Factory flaw, is staying on my car, I made up my mind not to break the factory paint. I believe I have made the right decision on this! John

After looking at the rocker panel photos again, it does not look like the one for the 350, maybe the parts man did order the wrong part?

Like Voodoo mentionned, that doesn't look to be the right rocker panel.

John, you can ask the dealership to just reinstall the old painted rocker to the new black plastic piece.

Problem solved.
