Side mirror repair question

Hi all,

Got in a minor merging lane accident today and my side mirror took a hit. Luckily, after I cleaned it, I see no scratches on the mirror cover. However, one of the plastic pieces popped off and is now sitting somewhere on 495. I scheduled an appointment with a service dept. near me. Does anyone know if this is a possible DYI project or how much it would cost to repair?

Yea, I was looking for the part on http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/C...FA6P8TH7F5317359&initSearch=1&keyword=MIRROR#

I'm not very good at identifying the technical parts, was hoping someone could help identify the part number that I need. I couldn't find it from looking at the diagram.

I will be removing my mirrors in the next day or 2. I can get the part number off of that piece if you would like. Thats the driver's side top piece?

I took the mirror apart on my car today and the only thing on that part is, 621617>ASA< and the bottom piece has 621619 ASA< . There is no normal ford part number on that piece.

I was just pulling the mirror off to put pony projectors in them. I have seen new mirrors on ebay for $220-250. What would you like pictures of?

Sorry, I thought you got some new aftermarket mirrors that would be worth it for me to buy if the dealer comes back and quotes an extremely high price...which they did. They quoted me $620 on the repair. They couldn't get just the rubber piece so they have to order the whole mirror cover and replace it.

I'm not sure what to do atm so I'm waiting to see if there's someone else who ran into a similar issue.

Also I wanted to ask you, was the part that I'm missing glued on? I was wondering if you had any resources on how to take apart the mirror so I can try to do it myself. I tried looking up videos on youtube but to no avail :(

The piece that you are missing is snapped on. The top half and the bottom half snap together. They are hard plastic and not rubber.Your best bet would probably be to go on ebay and buy a mirror. There are tons of them on there. Here is a pic that I took and you can see the clips that hold the two pieces together.

BULL1TT, you're lifesaver. If you're ever in the area, let me buy you a beer. I'm planning on buying one on ebay or heading to the junkyard to salvage for parts (that mustang that caught on fire is near my area...hmmm)

I believe that he may be talking about the painted cover as that is only $67-$75 depending on if you have turn signals or not.

Your best bet would probably be to go on ebay and buy a mirror. There are tons of them on there.

Yeah get on eBay and find a mirror. You're lucky in that the part you need can be taken off any color mirror.

You could probably even sell the colored cap off the mirror you buy and make some of the cost back.
