Side Exhauast on Ecoboost

Has anyone attempted to do side exhaust on their cars?

I came up with this idea to have side exhaust with cutouts fabricated to my Y pipe or downpipe and still have my axle backs still active. I would have 4 exhaust in total.

Any thoughts on this?


Currently I have 1 cut out on my downpipe and it's awesome but I want to make the sound come from both sides of the car.

I notice you are in California, before doing anything make sure it is legal including the emissions testing.

I like side exhausts and wondered the same thing. I would not have both side and axel back because of the added weight. For me it's one or the other.

Probably the best way to do it and use a good exhaust shop with a couple low profile mufflers for a custom fit. If not, there will be ridiculously shitty, un-muffled 4banger sounds coming from it, and you may be the subject of some ridicule from guys with bigger engines, but it will look great when parked.

Low profile mufflers might fit on either side but you could go with one in place of the stock resonator and it just might work. One in and two out.

This is exactly what I did with a MF 1in/2out,except ran it out the back, not side. The one thing to watch out for is that I would guess most 1in/2out aftermarket mufflers are going to be a not-insignificant amount larger than the factory resonator. This resulted in my muffler sitting below the exhaust tunnel as it doesn't fit in the space. I believe this has reduced my ground clearance in the center of my car. Not an issue so far as I am still on stock suspension but if you want to or have lowered your car this might not be an option.
