Anybody had any issues with shredding belts after hasty bracket install? Looks like it’s tracking perfect at idle but under boost it’s eating them. (GEN3 VMP)

Are you using a 100mm or 90mm I’m just asking bc on the pics it looks like a 100mm but I could be wrong

with mine I had to use a spacer on the supercharger pulley

That belt is getting tossed around. Is the tensioner working properly? Is your belt too long or too short?

The pulley on Hasty appears to be a 100mm. I’m running Gates 60806 belt. So the supercharger pulley needs spacer? Is your spacer one piece?

I’m wondering about the tensioner too. It’s factory and not much movement with belt on.

That big gap between the pully and housing is OK?

That’s the compressor snout. It’s milled back for use with small pullies and up to a 10-rib belt setup...

Before it shredded belt I noticed it moved. It was riding on the inside lip (toward blower) of pulley. Seems like if I space the pulley out more it’s gonna be worse?

Under acceleration, the tensioner is not taking up enough belt slack allowing the belt to ripple, lash and float around as it comes in and out of tension.
It looks like it has even kicked off at least once and you got lucky it tracked back on...

Add a paint pen or other mark you can see while standing in front of open hood watching the motor at idle (Easier done when cold):
Undo belt and allow tensioner without belt to expand the belt path all the way until a mechanical stop on the tensioner wont allow further motion. This is your full expanded belt path position (longest belt path). mark something or add blue or masking tape or do something so you can see this easily while motor is running.

Warm engine, WARM BELT: idle 15 min or drive around moderately then idle 5.

Have someone blip WOT throttle: 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k, 7k,
Dont go past 5k if the tensioner has moved much yet.
As rpm climbs you should see the tensioner expanding the belt path (adding length) to take up slack generated.
Should be noticeable motion by 3-4.5k.
Very solid action by 5-6k
By 7k it should be moving quite a bit.

You never want the tensioner hitting either stop.
If it is sitting on either stop with engine off:
Change belt lengths or adjust belt path so that tensioner is about 15-20% off of the shortest belt path stop. This should allow the tensioner to expand the belt path almost 80% more before hitting the full open/longest path/greatest expansion stop.

On a new belt, I sometimes aim for 12-15% or basically just off the shortest path stop. The belt will stretch over time.

Something is very wrong in that image...
Pulley marks on backside of belt?
8 rib belt on 6 rib pulley.
I cant tell wtf is going on there.
This forum needs a teleport function.

If I win the lottery, Im just going to drive around the USA fixing setups.
