You can wash it normally but do not use any sort of high-pressure washer or brush etc. on or near the stripes. Do not polish the stripes as it will do nothing but mar the soft clear-coat on top of the vinyl.I have some questions for you folks with stripes. Is there any special care you need to give to maintain the stripes. Can you wash it like normal, I use a touchless car wash once a week. Also, does it easily chip from rocks etc on the road.
As far as cleaning, I wash mine normally and make sure I carry some detail spray and get off any sort of tar/sap/aviary blessings/road grime as soon as possible as it will stick to and/or stain the vinyl if left on too long.
As far as upkeep maintenance, I've read so many different things, but after much research and talking to the companies (mine are the best Avery gloss automotive vinyl they had), you can and should use surface protectants. You can wax as long as said wax is not full of polishing particles or a cleaner-type of wax. It's safe on the hard clear-coating on your car but not the soft vinyl.
I just did a full strip-wash with Adam's Strip wash mixed with some Dawn and put down a few layers of paint sealant for the upcoming winter on the stripes too (early winter and first sign of spring I do that up in NY). Normal wash consists of a wash, followed by an application of Adam's H20 Guard & Gloss, and then finally a good wax. This offers a ton of sun/UV protection and makes cleaning them a snap. Anything gets on them, quick spritz of detail spray and things wipe right off.
Yes, they will show signs of road impacts. I was thinking you might be able to iron them out a bit, but I'm not willing to replace it all if I screw it up :headbonk:It has to be a good impact though for it to show. My surrounding paint easily shows ton of little impacts that you notice upon close inspection, but I only have one decent ding in my stripes that have been on there 7 months.
